Like I do from time to time I'll post some of the top statistical performers in the area to this point. Very impressive seasons for them all. Let's finish strong.

Brennan Mckean: 26.5 PPG, 5.4 APG, 34% 3FG, 91.1% FT
Drew Frizell: 20.1 PPG, 43% 3FG, 90.0 FT
Levi Licata: 17.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 64.6% FG
Ryan Moore: 15.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 50% FG
Patrick Rufener: 15.00 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 32.5% 3FG
Jeremy Briggs: 14.5 PPG, 4.7 APG, 37.7% 3FG
Alex Bates: 14.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 4.1 APG
Nick Davis: 12.4 PPG, 6.9 RPG

Should be very interesting to see how awards are passed out the end of the year. There are two teams with two players who are very deserving of all-league and all-district in my opinion, Hillsdale and Smithville. Northwestern has the best player in the league. Briggs is having a good year, but plays on a horrible team, which usually has an impact when handing out awards. Both of the Rufeners for Rittman are playing very well, also. No Dalton players are averaging double figures, so it should be very interesting to see how those guys are treated at the end of the year. Sort of the same thing when looking at the Daily Record as far how they will treat Hiland. There are players with much better statistics than those guys but their team is doing well. In talking about sacrifice in that article today, the guys should not contradict themselves and realize that sacrificing statistics means sacrificing post season awards as well, which I am sure they will. They have much bigger goals in mind! I think Kauffman should be honored and that is it from the Hawks, as well as Wasson from the Riders, and Lalonde from the Generals. Wayne County League should clean up the rest! Good luck to everbody finishing their seasons out, and being seeded for the tournaments! Also I would encourage anybody when discussing seeds to look at Pitman's page. Very detailed and organized.

what's going on is the talent on teams 1-6 is very very close. Looks like anyone can lose at any time.

I'm no expert 1486....but I still say Northwestern is about 5th or 6th as far as overall team talent. Sure, McKean is probably the best player in the league, but after him the dropoff is steep....
That being said, I have to credit that ole Alberts magic....That guy continually gets the most out of everybody.

Hillsdales size and talent will propel them to the WCAL championship this year. Northwestern has the inside track on second (I think Dalton pins an "L" on them later this month)

Dalton & Smithville also could make a runnerup bid, but it looks like its a battle for 3rd at this point. Both have potential to make postseason noise.

Norwayne & Rittman are highly talented, undisiplined spoilers. No longer a threat to contend for the league, if either gets hot......they could make a run in the tourneys.

Its been a fun season to watch so far.

I really think Rittman is going to make a run in the tournament.

you are right about northwestern, but mckean is just that good. Even though the talent drop is steep, the fact that some of the other guys are good 3 point shooters and at least solid defenders makes them go. The other thing that makes the league more balanced is that their are no true dominant post players in the league this year. Some of the best big guys like to play away from the basket, taking away some of their size advantage.

Bloody Toothbrush, I agree with you. The thing that helps them is that they have their role players make huge shots down the stretch every game it seems!

dalton 61 rittman 48. Much better effort tonight by the bulldogs than last week against the smithies. They need to be ready going into the game with Northwestern next week. Soph. Chase Moyer was almost unstoppable tonight. When he has it going, he is really talented.

i know we are just getting into tourney time, but think for a second how different the WCL will look next season with an exodus of almost all of the stars - from mckean to frizell to moore, it will look a lot different next season. The top players that will return that I can think of are Licata (hills), Bates (smith), moyer (dalt) - others you can think of?

1486, I was thinking the same thing and discussed it with somebody the other day. Besides the three very talented players you named, 2 of whom will only be juniors, Adam Wallace and Nate Davis for Norwayne, Jeremy Briggs for Chippewa, Mitch Huffman for Hillsdale, Steve Klotzle for Smithville should all be solid players next year. All of the boys I named will be seniors. I can't wait to see what Moyer and Bates do next year when their roles increase, there should be some very high numbers for them.

Can they go to Dalton, defeat the Dawgs & get a slice of the championship pie.

Gonna be a pretty tall order......Is there any magic left in Alberts wand?

win or lose....it should be fun to watch!

Finally....Go WCAL B-Ball, Somebody take the Wooster D3 title!

should be a good one bloody, dalton is still smarting that they're not going for the title too tonight due to those 2 losses to the Bobcats that I still can't figure out. Looking forward to seeing mckean again - that guy is special (although that point total list in the paper had me remeniscing about Ryan Berg in the 90s - over 1900 points!) Here's to a great game, an impressive performance by mckean and hopefully a bulldog victory.

Somebody should inform WQKT that the Dalton gym was not built in the 20's. First season was the 66-67 season, so it's only about 45 years old.
Good game to listen to and get ready for tourney games.

Congrats to Coach Al on his 5th WCAL championship, this years team has been pretty resilient. I sure wouldn't want to face the dawgs (dalton) in the DIV tourney though, they are pretty talented and play some of the best half court M2M defense I've seen this season. Good luck to all WCAL teams in the tourney, unless you are playing NHS.
