Although I understand the logic I would not want to adversely affect the kids. They are the only innocent part of this. I fault the OHSAA for providing the loopholes and the schools for abusing the loopholes. That's where the changes need made. I have said before if I lived in Youngstown my kids would go to Mooney. I still wouldn't agree with the athletic guidelines set forth by the OHSAA and used to the fullest extent by privates.

As mentioned in an earlier post...Wonder how many Catholics set on the OHSAA board? And by the way my wife is Catholic so don't go there.

I dont agree with the separate playoff thing either.

I also didnt agree with dropping Private schools from our schedule either.

I will say this, i think that the only thing that needs done, is Division one needs realigned. It is the ONLY Division that has schools on the lower end, with 525 boys, up to over 1000 boys. There is NO OTHER Division with that big of a swing. Im not complaining about anything, just saying its harder come playoff time, to complete with a school that dresses 100 more boys than you. It makes a difference in the depth chart. I say that to say this, Massillon still competes to their best in Division One, and that is all I can ask of the 16, 17, and 18 year old kids that play, for us fans.

And as someone else said, making separate playoffs, hurts the KIDS, because some ADULTS, cry its unfair. Some times you just have to give more than 100% to beat some teams, not saying these kids dont!!!! But, life aint always fair either. We cant just change things, because it might not SEEM fair. That is not what football is suppose to teach about life lessons.

Now, all the public school people can rip me a new one, I dont care,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it all JMHO.

Again....someone has yet to explain to me how they are going to tell their son that they don't have the right to play for a true state championship because "mommy and daddy didn't think it was fair." Still crickets on that one.

As I've said before, hell no. To be the best, beat the best. It's that simple. Why would you want to me known as the 'runner-up' champion so to speak because you didn't play the private schools in the playoffs? If you aren't prepared to play that private school and win, that is your schools fault. Schedule up, get tough, do whatever it takes. Running scared isn't the answer.

I will agree with that as well. Logan had minimal success for this reason as well. Up until 2007, we were Division 1. One of the smallest in the Division. Luckily, we were able to drop to Division 2 in 2007. Now we are still D2 drawing from 453 boys I believe it was last time I checked.

I really wish that more fans...and some coaches around the state...thought this way.

It's a great lesson that some of these people are teaching their kids: if you can't beat 'em...cry and whine until you don't have to compete with them anymore. Forget working harder to get better and beating the best.

By the way...the Colts and the Patriots and Steelers are too good in the AFC. They should have their own playoffs and just play each other so teams like the Bengals and Browns have a better shot at winning the Super Bowl. Duke and Michigan State have been to too many Final Fours in basketball. They need to be moved to their own March Madness tournament.

On the other hand, someone has to tell their kids they don't have the right to play for a true state championship because schools X, Y and Z had academic scholarships available.

LOL. Yes, I am agreeing with you. I don't care what school you root for...if you believe that you just need to strap on the chin strap and go to work to beat someone else, I will 100% agree with you. Even if you cheered for...gulp...Steubenville. It's the people that constantly scream "it's not fair" and "waaaahhhhhh, we lost so now I'm crying foul" that drive me nuts.

Anyone can beat anyone else on any given night. That's the beauty of high school football. If more coaches had the mentality you talked about...this would be a moot point.

LOL. I just wanted to see you type that, yes, you agree with me. :D

But, seriously, There is nothing that will ever change.

And before ANYONE bashes me, for what I have/will say, it is JUST MHO, and I dont feel it applies to ALL,,,,,

Because of the way things are, yes, kids across the board need to:

Train HARDER
Play with MORE heart
Know your schools TRADITION, and be PROUD of it
Play hard the WHOLE game

Now, I do not feel ALL kids, dont apply these, but, if ALL teams applied these, there would be no upper hand, in any division. But, as I also said,,,,,,
Whether we make a Div. IA and Div. IB or 8 Divisions and split the bottom half of Div. I, something in Div. I HAS to change. Like I said earlier before, it is the BIGGEST Div, in the state, and I feel the most lopsided. NOT making excuses, just pointing out the swing in numbers, is larger in DI than ANY other Div.

I think you may be on to something there. The Yankees and the Lakers need their own playoffs too! I'm sick and tired of these really good teams beating up on the shitty teams. Screw them! Let them play themselves! Or maybe with themselves.

Would the catholic schools be able to file discrimination charges against OHSAA if they are forced out of the playoffs that have been around for years and made to play only catholic schools in the playoffs?
What will be next,Teams with more than 50% black kids can only play teams made up of 50% or more black players and then we could have a white team playoff and a black team playoff and at the end of the playoffs we could have the Black and White Bowl Championship Game.

Keep things the way they are and life goes on as it always has.

There is no real solution, I believe Ohio has the best playoff system going. KEEP EVERYTHING THE WAY IT IS!

To be the best, you have to beat the best.

Not many Steubenville people want to change the current setup. Over the past six years we have played 37 games against privates and won 33 of them. That includes wins over Mooney, Ursuline, Alter, and DeSales. This year we played four games against Catholic schools. If it weren't for the privates, we couldn't fill a schedule.

Two fighters enter the ring: Parochial and Public.
They may bring any weapons they are allowed to legally get their hands on. Because Public is bound within his city limits, his only available weapon is from the local knife manufacture. He brings to the ring the best knife this manufacturer can produce. Parochial not only has access to the same knife manufacturer, but he is also able to bring into the ring a rifle manufactured from a neighboring town. Through a monetary deal, Parochial is also able to secure body armor and a pistol from two other surrounding towns.
Public objects to the extra weapons from other towns being brought into the ring.
Parochial insists that this is a fair fight, for to be the best you have to beat the best, and calls Public, with his proudly made local knife, a whiner.
