They put all of their eggs into one basket (football) and they have not one State Title won on the field. The fact that they focus so much on football their other sports and academics are garbage. Its because the rules have gone polar opposite. Now the privates can recruit with impunity . How else can schools with no stadium of ther own 1/10 the booster support be so competitive ? Massillon has more boosters and more community support than any high school in the entire country . They are the Mecca of HS football . Now Mooney on the other hand has nowhere near that amount of community support yet they field the best kids in the whole Youngstown Warren area along with Ursulin , That metro area is huge just like the Canton /Massillon metro area .. Look at Stark county though . You have 10 or so very very very good teams at many different division levels . Youngstown you may get 4 a year with Mooney and Ursulin always in the top 4 . Why cant people just see this . Its obvious . look when you can recruit without consequenses you field great teams .. its not like they can go out and hire the best coaches and pay the most for them . .. Its like the Mooneys and Ursulins and others can draft like the Yankees and Red Sox but Massillon is limited to Pittsburgh Pirate spending .. Its a totally unfair ability . Its just plain facts .. Like most people have explained to you to the point of insanity Youngstown went from 6 high schools to now just one that has sports. So do you honestly believe that most of those parents who choose to stay in Youngstown aren't going to decide to send their kids to Mooney or Ursuline? All and I repeat all of the schools in Youngstown have benefitted from this. The demographics at, Fitch, Boardman, Liberty, Girard, and Poland have changed dramitically from where they were 20 years ago. If you look at most of the rosters from those schools you will see the last names of former YPS players. If you look at Mooney's roster you will see the names of people that went to Mooney with a few kids whose parents "CHOSE" a better school academically. If you look at Ursuline's roster they are loaded with the same but they have more kids whos parents went to YPS. Mooney has always been good if you are trying to say that they are doing something shady you are dumber than I even thought you were. Ursuline took advantage of the plight of Youngstown Schools as did Fitch, Boardman, Liberty, Girard, and Poland.

Face it Mooney is, has been, and will always be better coached than Steubenville and Massillon is just another decent D1 school that thinks they are what they used to be. The Mecca of HS football? Give me a freaking break that is the problem people assume this and blame it on the private schools. It's more like the Mecca of Good Old Boy politics. The data is there the poster that stated that 2% to 5% of Massillon is open enrollment was him guessing. But on the flip side the probability of kids from Mooney not coming from their feeder schools is probably the same 2% to 5%. My question to you is where is the data regarding all of your incoherent, delusional, uneducated accusations?

PJ Quinn is a graduate of Byzantine Catholic Grade School. It is located on Youngstown-Poland Road. He was the starting QB for the South Catholic Cardinal junior high program. If you talk to PJ he'll be glad to tell you how happy he is to be a Mooney Cardinal.
