So just to recap. You have no problem with a parent choosing whatever school they want for their child..............as long as that school is a public school and not a parochial one? Is that what I'm reading here?

It is past time for separate playoffs. Something will be done after the private schools sweep the football championships this season.

Youngstown Ursulin is a division 1 football team on the field ..Youngstown Mooney is also ..one is D-5 and one is D-3...The D-5 team is probably the best team in the state any division...I know they can beat anybody at any given time for sure. These two schools are not near as big in enrollment as alot of the D-1 teams .

Please explain your thinking because you are starting to sound a little confused on the issue.I do believe you are saying that it is ok for a child to transfer to a private school only if they agree not to play sports unless they are below average when it comes to sports ability and I think it is a shame that you think that the only reason a good athlete would transfer to a private school is for football only and nothing to do with the chance to get a good education.I know that I support Big Red every week and along with alot of fans we don't think that way about a child that chooses to attend a catholic school.

When public schools such as Massillon and Canton who have been sanctioned and not allowed to participate in the playoffs recently stops ..that will help the issue ...Yes you can go wherever you want ..I dont care ..I want the playoff system rectified ..Are you saying there isnt a disparaging difference between Ursulin and the rest of the D-5 public schools .. They are a top 25 team in the USA ..Believe me I have seen alot of great teams ...I dont want to hurt the private schools I want to help the public schools

You want to the move the private schools up divisions because some public schools have broken rules? There is some logic missing in that.

When Stuebenville has had there very good teams, did you feel that should be moved up to D1?

Year in and year out, Steubenville fields a team that could compete with just about any team in any division. And their enrollment doesn't come close to the size of the D1 schools either.

I have re-read your posts. You talk in circles, and say that it's OK for parents to choose Steubenville, but if they choose a Catholic school it's somehow wrong. You keep pointing out Ursuline (and for the love of God...spell the school name correctly! There's an "E" at the end...UrsulinE!) being a top 25 team...which they are not, at least not in any rankings I've seen. You keep mentioning how Private schools are favored to win all 6 divisions. You're solution is to either separate the playoffs completely...or move all (scratch that, just the good Private schools) up 2 divisions for the playoffs. I'm still not sure how that solves your complaining though. Because if Ursuline is the best team in any division this year...what is the difference if they are in D5 or D3? Will that make you stop crying? So basically, you either want no Private schools at all in the playoffs...or you don't want any (scratch that, just the good Private schools) out of D5 and D6.

I don't have a lack of understanding...you just have a terrible lack of explaining yourself.

Big Red is also better than 90% of the other public schools. Some of the factors I would attribute to Big Red are coaching stability, strong programs from the lower levels on up, tradition to build upon, strong interest from the community that inspires the kids to work toward the goal of playing for the Big Red, and community support. Many of these same factors are also part of successful teams (private or public). Some people on here act like every private school is a powerhouse, and that simply isn't true. If you look at most of the succesful programs (public or private), I think you will see coaching stability over several years.

The same reason why public schools like Steubenville, Coldwater, Marion Local, and Versailles are better than most public schools year in and year out. They are good programs that kids want to play for. The Catholic schools also offer a great education that kids cannot receive in the inner city schools and in some cases better than the education they can receive in the suburban school district.

Parents want what is best for their kids. Whatever their reason for sending their kid to a school is completely up to them. If a parent lives in Boardman, and feels like their son has a better shot at getting a good college education by playing football at Mooney instead of Boardman...then that is entirely their choice. AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!

We played teams like the Boardman Little Spartans, the Austintown Little Falcons, and the Wilson Little Redmen. We played our games at a field right near Poland high school. During my last year there, Poland's new head coach Rick Shepas came to talk to us and told us that we needed to work hard, and do well so that one day we could play for him at Poland high school. That sounds a lot like recruiting to me...

I saw a very interesting add in the Columbus Dispatch last week. It was an add about Bishop Ready HS. The add basically said come visit our school on such and such a night, talk to our teachers and administrators, look at our different programs and EXTRA CURRICULARS we have to offer and decide if Bishop Ready is in your future.

The point is the Columbus Dispatch covers a very large territory. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck then it probably is a duck. That add was nothing, but a recriutment add and that does include recruitment of athletes.

Shepas shouldn't be allowed to talk to the pee wee teams? Well, if that's the case....I have some reading I strongly recommend, the article I've been pimpin in the PD. I Believe it covers this very subject....In depth. And it doesn't shed a very good light on the Cleveland area Parochials.

BTW, Didn't shepas attend Mooney? Maybe he just gets it honest.

Thank you .That is my point.. Public schools dont do this at that kind of level . If they do want to talk to a kid about coming to play football for say Bishop Ready ,then nothing would be noticed because it is under the this blanket of privacy that the private schools have ......Everytime a kid transfers that happens to be a decent football player to a different public school it is all over the place in blogs ...

I think its ok ....Parents decide which school they want to send there kids .. We have a flawed system and I am not sure how to fix it .

Nope, I admit that I misunderstood his original post, when he said "a community pee wee team", I assumed he meant that the Poland team was comprised of kids from the "community" of Poland....The Austintown team comprised of kids from the "community" of Austintown....And so forth. I could be wrong, but now I believe he meant that they were mixed in. If the team was made up of kids from Poland ONLY, obviously I don't see a problem, If it was a mixture of 3 or 4 kids from Poland, 3 or 4 kids from Austintown and so on, then Shepas shouldn't have been allowed to talk to them.

That's my point. You want to cry and whine about Private schools holding a camp. But you don't have a problem if a public coach goes and talks to a pee wee/middle school/junior high team.

You mean a Bishop Ready OPEN HOUSE? Something that EVERY HIGH SCHOOL does? Usually it's around the same time as parent/teacher conferences. High schools all over...both private and public...will have open houses/spaghetti dinners/fund raisers at the high school and are used to showcase what the school has to offer. I remember reading about Boardman high school's open house when I lived back home in the Boardman news every year. Only, instead of just an ad...a journalist would do an entire article about the open house and what you can expect to find there.

Don't act like privates are the only schools that hold open houses. And don't act like they are the only ones that advertise their open houses. Every school does it. Some just pump it up more than otheres.
