Pat down or xray machine? I am flying up to Ohio this Thursday and to me I could really care less. If you don't like the security measures don't fly. I will have no problem with either, I have been patted down many times in airports anyways as I always get the "extra search" so no biggie for me. How do you feel? Keep you from flying? Invasion of privacy?

As I posted on the politics forum, I'm not sure why we have minimum wage TSA people doing this when we can have trained dogs. That is how it works in many international airports. I trust a German Shepherd's nose over a rehab's fingers.

I get the point about the screeners themselves but to me I have been patted down by a bouncer in a night club before going in so its about the same level. Yes I know a night club/airport and security don't go hand in hand but the level of qualifications are the same. I just think too many people/media are making a huge deal over this like the guy now in the news with the "Don't touch my junk or I'll have you arrested". I had a splint on my finger a fews back and because of that got a pretty extensive search in Detriot as of course I set off the detector. The dude went elbow deep down my jeans, I gave him fair warning I don't wear underwear, yes he brushed it and moved on. It was uncomfortable but at the same time I had to catch my flight right?? Kinda like a prostate exam, its gonna suck but you should get it done. Again I just think this is all blown up and it all comes back to because these folks are making $9 an hour type conversation. Well get this, up their pay and guess what we will pay alot more for flights too and still have to deal with it!

I'd rather some chic see my schlong on a screen than some dude cop a feel. I travel nearly every week for work, so I wouldn't have a choice on the keep-me-from-flying option. I do believe it is an invasion of privacy and while I'm all for being sure my flight is safe I'm not sure I believe this is all that much better than anything they already had in place - just a shit ton more money.

I'm pretty sure it isn't anything like that.

$9 is not enough to go elbows deep in your pants.

It's absolute bullshit. Dogs are more effective and not so damned embarrassing.

I guess I'm not embarrassed by it. I think it sucks, don't take that the wrong way but I'm not embarrassed. If I was a TSA agent i'd be embarrassed reaching down folk's pants all day and dealing with the customers throwing fits. I really don't see the big deal. Other countries have been patting down for years. I mean if you have nothing to hide it will be done and you are on your way.

I could care less about someone seeing my dong on an xray screen or some dude giving me a pat down but I find the whole process to be, as I Wear Pants said, bullshit.

I flew twice in August and it never bothered me. I just went through the "new" X-ray machine.....no extra pat-down. But I did notice they were stopping more people than usual for extra screening.

I mean, it isn't going to keep me from flying. My wife and I are taking a trip to Mexico in a few weeks so it's a little too late for that. It just does nothing but give the illusion of "safety."

I got the pat down last week at the Tucson airport. It was annoying but I was not mad, offended, embarrassed, etc. IF (and I stress if) it makes us safer I think it's worth the hassle. Time will tell I suppose.

GS-5 is pretty far from minimum wage, as I corrected you before

I fly on average 5 - 8 times a year and people at airports never cease to amaze me either on top of this issue. Airports suck, there is a reason they say be there what 90 mins before domestic and 2 hours before international flights because you are going to deal with BS! Long lines, rudeness, delays, cancellations, heavy security, and people everywhere! I guess I travel enough that I am immune to it and just go through the motions. Now I flew just two weeks ago out of Jax and they didn't have the Xray scanners yet and I didn't get patted down. I am wondering if in Jacksonville it is all pat downs now or if they got the xrays machines, guess I'll find out Thursday. Fly back out of Detroit on Sunday.

We could stop all crimes if we simply had some low wage lackey come into everyone's homes, cars, bathrooms, etc. If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about. The nothing to hide argument is terrible.

I posted this in the Politics forum. Those people that are OK with it in the name of "security", I wonder if that will include cavity searches. This is the way the TSA works, completely reactionary after a new threat.

1. Someone tried to sneak bomb in shoes, everyone now must take off shoes.
2. Someone tried to sneak bomb in underwear, everyone now xrayed or "pat down".
3. Someone eventually tries to sneak bomb in ass/vagina onto plane, TSA mandates cavity searches.

Still OK? When is the line drawn? How about everyone who flies strips naked and is issued a TSA provided jumpsuit for the duration of the flight? What isn't OK for the sake of "security"?

Are you guys all really that afraid that you're willing to let non-effective (oh, you're going to pat us down? Well I have all is space in my body) and extremely intrusive searches be done simply because there are people that tell you the terrorists will get you if some TSA guy can't feel you and your kids junk?

Dogs are more effective and don't invade your privacy.

I am not using as an argument, Pants. Just how I feel about the situation. I know when I buy a plane ticket I am subject to full body search, I have nothing to hide so I will suffer through it and move on.

It's definitely a slippery slope towards a police state. Not saying that's where we are headed, but that's likely where we are headed. I need to put my foil hat back on.

Pants I also get that dogs are more effective but they aren't using dogs, they are using humans for the time being. People crying about it in the media isn't going to change that. They will just kick your ass out the airport and move on to the next search. Again I don't want anyone thinking I am for this, I am just saying it's their rules I have to play by them if I want to fly.

It's because we keep allowing them to inch in on things like this.

When is something that they say is for our safety too much?
