And you don’t get searched unless you refuse the scan.
And why it is helpful is obvious, less chance of another Lockerbie, another 9/11.

I'll be refusing the scan even though I find the pat down much more invasive and degrading.

Well, I haven't been drinking, hung out with my wife (it is our Anniversary although she's asleep now) at the location of our wedding, talked with her stepfather earlier who received the full pat-down flying yesterday.

He's so pissed he's writing letters to the editor of the WaPo. Whether it gets published or not, I'll be happy to reprint it here. I trust this dude like my father, and he says it is ridiculous. That is all I need. We're talking genital contact...I don't care about TSA wearing gloves or the clothing being some sort of medium. No one should have to go through that.

Well you can have someone touch your crotch. I for one don't like it when I haven't done anything wrong.

Highlights (or lowlights):

""I understand people's frustrations," Obama said, while acknowledging that he's never had to undergo the stepped-up screening methods."

That's one hell of a leader for us.

""One of the most frustrating aspects of this fight against terrorism is that it has created a whole security apparatus around us that causes huge inconvenience for all of us," Obama said."

Not if you fight it correcty.

Good lord, who the hell voted for this guy? If George W. Bush made such a comment he'd be up for impeachment.
I would vote for him right now even though I didn’t in 2008. I am sorry you feel offended that the President does not have to be groped before getting on his plane.
It must be rough to hate a popularly elected leader of our nation as much as you do. He is just being a politician assuaging the whining of so many over necessary security actions.
No under those circumstances George Bush would have found someone to invade.

and we will adjust to it. Since 2001 we have been successful in keeping Americans alive. I consider that a positive, even if you don't

And the terrorists will come up with something new. You see, reactive. Not proactive.

They also did it with Ryder trucks.

Quick, background checks and x-rays and pat downs for anyone renting a moving van!

No, I'm offended that I, or my wife could be groped, and its kool and the gang with you that our leaders somehow have different rules that apply to them.

So are you admitting that the average citizen could be 'groped'. And that's fine with you?

I'll tell you what Isadore. I WILL VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA in 2012 if he agrees to the same pat-down my wife's stepfather had to do, do it in front of a national televsion audience, and explain why it is that it is necessary. Until then, my disdain for our political class that thinks they are above it all will continue.

it is so easy to say be proactive, but short of killing every muslim on the plane, we are following our best options.

Are they not laying their hands on me while being patted down? You know, because I'm a terrorist until proven innocent.

Muslims are members of a religion, not a race. How racist of you to classify them as a race.
