The top 4 or 5 playoff teams will have "all around good teams", too. That's where QB becomes a big deal. You might get to the SB with a 2nd-rate QB, but winning it is a different story. The list of SB winning QB's (and losing ones) reads like a virtuall who's-who to play the position. Something like 2/3 of SB's have been won by future HOFers. And nearly half of the 88 starting SB QB's or whatever the number is are or will be in the HOF. Those are pretty daunting numbers.
Going back to 1990 (20 years) this is your list of elite QB's in the SB: Combined record 15-9 = 75% of the SB wins and about 60% of the SB starting QB's . You're fighting for scraps with 2 dozen other teams if you don't have a top QB. Reality is you have to go thru 2 or 3 teams in the playoffs with top QB's to win a SB, particularly in the AFC, and that's really tough with a disadvantage at the most important position in sports.
