definitely a year where parity seems to be the watchword...

having said that...I'd go with

1. Giants

2. Colts...despite their inconsistencies

3. Ravens...really solid top-to-bottom.

4. Jets may be the team to beat by the end of the season.

5. Packers look good over the long season.

Colts are good but I really don't think they are a top 5 team right now. Of course when you have number 18 you will always be a contender but they aren't top 5 at the moment.

I don't think that there is a team you can really say is the "best" right now because it seems like every time a team looks like they might be a step ahead of the other upper-tier teams, they get beat.

But if anointing a team as the best is a contributing factor in this, then I'm saying they're the best...by god, they're the best!!!! (go atlanta...)

I hate the Ravens. They are an illegitimate team born out of theft and concieved in deceit. Even if they were the 'best team' in the NFL I'd never give them or their thieving, conniving leaders and fans the satisfaction or the honor of considering them so.

My favorite teams are the Browns...and anybody playing the Ratbirds.

No, definitely not chief. Did you watch the game? They came back from being down by 13 only to lose on a bad non call to score a TD.

I don't know. I'm kind of with Tiernan here. *GAG*

The Falcons exposed some holes in the passing game last night. I'm not saying they are out of the discussion, but personally I thought their biggest issue was Pass protection and Flacco's rigidity in the pocket. Now I think old legs on defense might be the issue. There defense is still very formidable but if you have a run game at all to threaten them with, they're hesitating now and not being instinctive explosive ballers like in years past.

They are top 10, MAYBE top 5, but right now I don't think they are the best in the league.

I respect your opinion but I don't think losing last night takes them out of the top team discussion.

even if they'd have won, the holes would have been exposed. very good team, but not the best, IMO. and that's not to say they don't put it together and win it all (see Giants from 2007).

Never said they weren't a "Top" team I just said they weren't the best team in their division, let alone the entire NFL. And guess what sparky?...last night proved me right again. like I always am.

how are you gonna put the jets in the top 5 after they only have 1 win over a team that has a winning record? falcon should be up there, espically after beating the ravens

How did losing last night prove they aren't the best team in the division? Because the Steelers beat the Falcons?

So much parity, but I still think that either them or Indy will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Every team has holes and no team matches up well with all 31 other teams.

I don't like the Jets or BAL simply because I think they have 2nd tier QB's. The sad reality for AFC fans is it will be rare for another team to crack NE, IND, and PIT to go to the SB. I'd add SD in there with Philip Rivers, as well, but they've probably dug themselves too big of a hole this year. Heck, MAYBE we could put HOU in there with Schaub (again, probably not this year). I'll say 8 or 9 times out of 10 the first 4 I mentioned will represent the AFC. That leaves a small COMBINED opportunity for the other 12 teams. I mean, sounds stupid, right - NE, PIT and IND have only represented the AFC in 8 of the last 9 SB's, and those guys will be around for awhile yet.

Same thing in the NFC. I think Favre is done, but you have Brees and you have.....Eli?. So much more wide open, though I think Rodgers and Ryan are right on the cusp.

When parity rules, if you want to look like a smart horse picker start with the teams with a thoroughbred at QB.

Luckily for Baltimore they have an all around good team so they don't have to have a top tier qb to make it to the Super Bowl. My guess is that there will be at least one team in the SB that hasn't been there a lot lately.
