per ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5732324

Alex Smith sidelined a couple weeks.

All is right with the world. I just hope the gameplan isn't too conservative.

Cool. Hope he takes it and runs with it. I think he can be effective although he may be a bit rusty.

I called this a while ago. Of course most people (including BR) laughed at me.

I hope he does well. I wanted him to stay in Baltimore but I understand why he wanted out.

You called that Alex Smith would get injured? You know that is the ONLY reason smith is starting right?

we will see if Alex Smith will start when he comes back. He has been downright bad all year, minus their last minute drive against the Saints.

I called that Troy Smith would be starting, I never said how....Considering that the ONLY reason Troy lost his starting gig in Baltimore was because of illness, I'd say it's fitting karma.

All depends on how Troy does.

I just really hope he doesn't have a short leash, we all know how delusional Singletary is.

Wouldn't it be something though if he led the 49er's to 9 straight wins and a playoff birth?

I can't say I'm mad he lost the starting gig in Baltimore but I did like having him as a back up.

Yes! I have always felt bad that he was the starter for the Baltimore Raven only to get sick. He never got his job back after recovering. Now he can finally show what he got.

Ted Ginn being out there won't hurt him either. Although Teddy has been somewhat of a dissapointment thus far in the league.

I cant finally cheer for him. Not on OSU not on Baltimore lol.

Of course, I am now screwed in fantasy with 4 WR either injured or with backups throwing them the ball.

Let's see what he's got. He certainly can't be any worse than David Carr and Alex Smith

Many Ravens players felt Troy Smith should have been the starter for the Ravens over Flacco so it will be fun to see what he can do.

I don't think he should have been the starter but I did like him being there. He came in a few times and had a couple rushing TD's.

I'm not sure what whatever that is you wrote is. But anyone who knows anything about football knows that Gino Toretta is the worst Heisman winner of all time (with Jason White a close second). It's so true that I think it was a question on Jeopardy once.

Andre Ware had quite the NFL career

A big opportunity for Troy Smith....49ers can only go up....and he'll get too much credit if they look decent the next 2 weeks.

He was the starter till he had that freak illness. I don't think any players felt that way now though.
