Right, the York family and Debartolo family, but no one started threads on Alex Smith. There's definitely a contingent of 9ers fans, especially in the Canfield area, but ytown, we all know the reason this thread exists is because Troy Smith played at OSU.
I just don't understand why Mr. Italy felt compelled to make a point that is extremely obvious (not that Troy Smith isn't a good NFL quarterback, but about why he's mentioned) in a condescending fashion.

I don't disagree, but there is definitely an Ohio tie that doesn't exist for other NFL teams, OSU grad/ownership = more than relevant on an Ohio based board. Doesn't quite get more relevant than that.

Troy wasn't terrible and had more wins in less games than alex smith. I'm perplexed by this situation. I think we can all agree that Troy wouldn't be starting in many other situations, but in SF he actually makes sense.

He already has made it. More so than Brady Quinn.
Its safe to say that you haven't watched Smith play for the Niners this season. He hasn't lit the world on fire, but he has been rather solid. By no means is he perfect, but keep in mind, the Niners are a pretty bad team.

Hoping he gets another shot. With the weapons on the 9ers they should be better. Takes time to get adjusted maybe a whole training camp to get down timing etc... then we can see what he has to offer.

and I don't deny that he's a bottom tier QB in the NFL, but for the team he's on you have to admit he's probably the best option for them to win. which is why the decision to bench him is mind boggling.
