I have no problem with it . . not everyone is Christian and the different religions celebrate a few different holidays this time of year.

I'm really not sure why that's so hard for people to understand. If you know someone is a Christian, then say Merry Christmas, otherwise just wish them a happy holiday season.

It's really not all that complicated.
