Yeah, AUB wins out...and I agree, it'd be tough for them to pass on ARk vs. OSU, or LSU vs. OSU...but the pressure to take Boise will be there.

An 11-1 Ohio State would be more deserving than 11-1 Stanford. Stanford will have beaten 2 teams all year with a winning record. Ohio State will have beaten 5 should they win out. It doesn't really matter who is more deserving though, because the only way Stanford gets picked at large is if a non AQ makes the title game. The Rose Bowl would take them. No other BCS bowl would take them over Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, or really anyone.

The only way Boise (or TCU, whichever one finishes lower) gets an at large bid to the BCS is if the final choice of at large teams is limited to teams like Stanford and Oklahoma State, teams which aren't going to bring much more money than Boise. Then the bowls would give in to the pressure and take Boise to shut everyone up. If Oklahoma is sitting out there, sorry Boise.

The Sugar Bowl isn't going to take a mid major after getting stuck with Cincinnati last year, and Utah and Hawaii the prior two years. They will want a big money matchup.

so with the rose bowl and sugar bowl both losing their tie-ins in schlabach's scenario, does the sugar bowl get the next two selections after the rose bowl takes boise or do they only get one? obviously if they get two in a row, ohio state and lsu will be their selections. if they only have one, why would they chose stanford over tcu?

In Schlabach's scenario (Oregon vs. Auburn title game), the selection order would be:

Rose (forced to take the highest ranked non-AQ)
Sugar
Sugar
Orange
Fiesta

that's what i thought after reading the selection rules again. so it becomes either tcu or stanford for the orange bowl. i don't think either is a ratings juggernaut, so i'd go with the undefeated team

TCU would get picked over Stanford for any BCS bowl except the Rose Bowl. If Auburn loses, Boise State would go to the title game, so the Rose Bowl wouldn't be forced to take a non-AQ. They would take Stanford to play the Big Ten champion. The Sugar Bowl would still take a second Big Ten team, leaving TCU to play in the Poinsettia Bowl or whatever.

Whichever team wins the Big XII is going to play someone awful from the Big Least. At this point Syracuse could still end up in Glendale. Let's just hope that Nebraska makes it and blows them out so that we have the last Big XII champion and an impressive BCS bowl winner joining the Big Ten next year. How great would it be to have three defending BCS bowl winners in the conference next season?
