PBS's American Experience and Frontline has a six part series on the history of God in America. I caught a little bit of it last night, part 4 I think, on God and the Civil War. It is very, very interesting and gives some great insight on how say President Lincoln viewed God during the Civil War.

For religious and history folks, I think it is a must watch. It really dove deep into how religion has played a part, both good and bad, in this country.
You can watch it online apparently, as the series will end tonight I think.

I haven't watched virtually any tv for a month. It's too bad I missed it, but it'll probably come out on Netflix so I can catch it later.

P-town,

I've caught a good part of it. Excellent. As a political conservative and an evangelical Christian it has helped me gain fresh insight on the formation of America and the role religion played in its development.

I think it's been a very "fair and balanced" documentary.

I have never watched any "movies" online, and probably never will. For some reason, it just doesn't appeal to me.

As someone who caught about an hour of it (Lincoln and the Civil War) I agree. I found really interesting the view that religious leaders in the North made the connection of Lincoln dying as an atonement for the sins of the U.S. in regards to slavery. It was a link I never thought of.

Not comparing Lincoln to Jesus, but that perhaps Lincoln's death was God's way of punishing the U.S. for slavery. It was something I found really interesting.

Didn't catch the program, but that thought reminded me of John Brown (radical abolitionist) before his execution, who said, "the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood." There are some who view the Civil War itself as a form of God's judgment for the sins of slavery.
