Cincy will continue to be an up and comer and should solidify itself as a power with or without Brian Kelly at the helm once they get the new facilities they have in the works, and I feel this will happen regardless of whether they expand Nippert or not. What I've seen on tv looks like a pretty hostile environment to me

You gave your opinion of Cincinnati and the Big East, I provided a rebuttal.

You then made some silly comment about grown-ups and that's the direction this thread has taken.

You tried to save face by saying you were using logic, when you were using opinion.

The thread was smooth until he said that dumb big kid stuff. I responded and now I am the one off topic?

Can I still make my rebuttals when you inevitably start into the "Big 10 is awesome.... Cincinnati is a two bit program even though they are #5" routine?

Did I ever say the Big 10 was awesome?

You know, Hawaii was a top 10 program once... Tulane even had an undefeated season in 1998.

Hawaii was able to sustain that success for a little while... sure maybe not a Top 10 Sugar Bowl playing unbeaten, but they were able to stay in the spotlight w/ 8-9 wins a year and a QB slinging it all over the place

Where is Hawaii at now?

I think Cincy is more prestigious than Hawaii, but they still aren't a top program.

When you think of BCS programs, and conferences, recruits don't think Cincinnati or the Big East. Maybe all of that will change, and I'm wrong.

I'm also not saying that the Big 10 is that much better. But I do think that the Big 10 is still at least solid. Are we like we were in the 90's and early '00's? Not at all, and we have regressed, but there are still very good coaches and recruits love to go to programs rich in tradition.

UC's football program isn't much of a big tradition. Much like Hawaii, or Tulane.

I'm sure Boise will come down to earth eventually as well.

Like I said, I could be wrong, but I just don't see UC becoming a powerhouse and a perennial top 10-top 15 team. And the Big East isn't a power conference either. I know they are a "BCS" conference, but Cincy proved that even with a solid season last year, they couldn't hang with a less than stellar ACC Leader in Va Tech who we know chokes year in and year out.

Where is Hawaii at now? Obviously since Colt Brennan and June Jones left they haven't gone anywhere this year; these things run in cycles. They have a good thing going on out there and they'll get it back. Just because you don't have much of a tradition doesn't mean you can't build one somewhere

Now that they are improving the facilities and fielding a team who can compete for BCS games I only see it continuing (as long as they find a suitable replacement for Kelly when he inevitably leaves)

However Hawaii isn't known for churning out HS talent, and on top of that June Jones left and was replaced by??? Nobody knows.

I think Hawaii would have a tremendous recruiting advantage on one end being location; you're going to school in Hawaii; on the other hand I would find it hard to play there, especially playing in the WAC when you've gotta leave on Wednesday for a Saturday game and in some cases fly to Louisiana Tech every year(who the hell let them in the WAC?). Cincy will continue to improve. They've worked themselves on the national map; they're already competing in the recruiting wars regionally and I have no doubt someone on their staff will soon discover the wealth of talent that the big four(Miami, Florida, Florida State and South Florida) and the rest of the SEC and ACC can't grab and begin to take players from down that way as well.

That's true. It doesn't mean that you can't.

But it's definitely not easy to do.

And even with Hawaii having June Jones, and Brennan, they proved that they weren't BCS worthy by getting killed by a Georgia team that was 2nd or 3rd in the SEC.

I never said it was easy to do; it takes a long time to build a reputation when you're recruiting, and that goes much further than your product on the field and your facilities.

Good point, and I won't argue that.

I'm just saying, when you think of football in Ohio, you think of Ohio State. I'm not trying to brag, or be cocky, because we haven't been a great team for awhile. But that's just how the cookie crumbles.

I think UC will get better recruits, but it's still the matter that a lot of these kids want to go to Ohio State because of the coaching, the location, the national exposure (Cincy is improving in that area), and most importantly the tradition, and fans, along with the stadium and facilities.

Cincy isn't a power.

They are on one of the "Big East" darling runs.. We saw it with Louisville, we saw it with WVU, and now we're seeing it with Cincy.

Kelly will be gone, whether it happens this offseason or next is the real question.

Of course you think of Ohio State; Ohio State cant get everybody in the state; its just not possible. Look at the number of kid we lose to other Big Ten schools that come back to bite us in the ass with big games every couple of years or so; because of this Cincy should be in a prime position to gain top recruits

To some people, playing in the WAC is a disadvantage. Many top players want to go to a program that's going to be on National Television, and that's sometimes more important than playing in great weather all the time, and being in Hawaii.

I think once Brian Kelly leaves, Cincy is going to be hard pressed to find a coach that knows how to develop players.

But if I'm wrong about him leaving after next year, and he's there for a decade or longer, then I'm sure that program will improve because he's a guy that doesn't have to get top recruits to make them great, which is a big kudos to that program.

Let me be clear also, because I don't think I've said it... My main reason is because I don't think Kelly will stay in UC for more than next year. The points about tradition and being more of a basketball school (that's what they are known for, regardless of the last few seasons), and what not are just my reinforcing points.

Let me also say that I apologize in that I was a bit childish. I just get a bit defensive about some arguments, and would like to publicly apologize and just discuss football with you gentlemen.

I'm a Buckeye fan too. I think there is more than enough room for another strong program in the state. When you look around at other recruiting gold mine states, they have multiple strong, storied programs. (Florida, Miami, FSU... Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech... USC, Stanford, UCLA, Fresno) But Ohio State is really all alone.

Cincinnati could give us some problems when we play them in a few years

Cincy could go in any direction; they could promote within, which I don't think will happen, I'm sure key guys will be pegged to follow Kelly wherever he goes, or they could go outside the league. I'd like to see a Chris Peterson get a shot at this type of job. The guy knows how to develop talent at Boise(yes, I know he succeeded with Dan Hawkins players the first couple of years) and it would be a step up as well

They don't have to get everybody in the state, we get guys from Florida, Michigan, Texas, Penn, Maryland, Georgia, Kentucky, and Indiana consistently.
