"They got the young fella," said Bryant's adviser, David Wells. "What could he say? He had to pay it unless he wanted to wash dishes for a month."
This quote cracks me up, where do I sign up for the $54,000 a month dishwashing job.

That's one hell of a dinner.

I'm sure the waiter/waitress was happy. The fixed gratuity of 18% is a nice tip of $9,720.

I'm sure the players union likes to see storys like this in a time of labor turmoil. Spending more on a meal than the average American makes in a year really makes me feel bad for the players.

Yeah, these poor bastards are really suffering. Spending this much on dinner really illustrates how these guys need a raise. I mean, gosh they have to eat for god sake.

It just shows how fucking stupid they are with their money, esp with a lockout coming

Dez signed a contract worth 2.36 mil/year (not all guaranteed). The $54,000 dinner was about 2% of his yearly gross salary; for a 50k a year person that would be about an $1100 tab.

I agree. As one of the comments on the bottom of the article states, I know a lot of people (including myself) who would love to make 55k a year. We all know these guys make tons of dough, but showboating it around like this and blowing that in one night just for a MEAL makes the NFL and the players look really, really bad.

As the famous Chris Rock joke goes, if you make 2 million dollars and you're getting divorced and your wife wants half, who cares? You still have a million dollars, you're not starving.

Now if you make fifty THOUSAND, and she wants 25...you might have to kill her.

Besides that, you obviously didn't read the article that close:

"Williams excused it, saying then that Bryant, who received $8.3 million in guaranteed money from his rookie contract, would just have to take the team out to dinner and get him some new shoes"

You do realize the guaranteed isn't in one season right?

So gorocks math is close.

Even if you want to go with your 8+ million its still like a $300 meel for those that make $50k.

As previously mentioned, $8.3 million guaranteed over 5 years. With that said, he's guaranteed $1.66 mil/year gross. A $54,000 meal is 3.2% of his yearly guaranteed salary, or about a $1,600 meal for someone making $50k.

Now, that doesn't really get into endorsement/speaking/whatever else he's making ... but speaking strictly on guaranteed salary from the Cowboys, dude laid down a lot of money.

Just as an aside... I find it odd that a "steakhouse" would have a 90 page wine menu lol

90 page seems excessive, but to be honest, top level steakhouses do have an extensive wine list.

I was flying to Minneapolis once and on the plane the sky magazine listed the "top 5" or "top 10" (can't remember) steakhouses in the US. One of them was in Minneapolis so I went there while I was in town.

To be honest, the steak was quite amazing, but they most certainly did have a long wine list.

Steakhouses have some of the bigger wine selections (the nice steakhouses). They attract so many food/wine lovers that want a certain thing with their top notch meat that if they want to stay competitive they have to have tons of selections on hand.
