One year after hearing the announcement that the stadium in Canton was a smoke free place my son had a few smokers fire their nastyretts up so he brought it to a police officers attention and he was told we do not enforce that here.

I guess doing his job was not something he thought he needed to do.
WTF!! You guess the police were just afraid of their fans? What are you insinuating?
Insinuating nothing, I thought my post pretty summed up what I had to say on this matter.

If you dont like the smoke, dont go out of your way to walk by there. I guarantee they werent smoking in their seats!!
Actually, there was one guy in the Glenville section behind me smoking a stogie.

I didn't mind, it's open air. As for Glenville, I thought they had the best fans of the six home team fans I sat with all weekend. Standing the whole game, signs, etc.

Some excellent research going on in this thread.

You have to also keep in mind the population spread of some of these states as a factor. Take Oregon, for example. I believe the vast majority of the population of Oregon lives on the Western side of the state. It makes sense to use Corvalis and Hillsboro in that instance as it is located in the population center. Same with South Dakota. Vermilion is in the Eastern Half. More than 70% of South Dakota's population resides east of Pierre which is in the center of the state.

Nevada uses Las Vegas because the majority of the state's population is located near Las Vegas and, let's be honest, it's Vegas. Georgia holds their championships in the Georgia Dome not only for effect but also because the population center is Atlanta.

A lot of the states that use a centralized location are small in area, thus most probably do not have an issue with the location as travel time is a non-factor.

Ohio has a fairly even population spread and large metro areas in all corners (and center) of the state. The fact that the population is spread evenly throughout Ohio makes picking a site for the state championships more problematic than other states as you will almost always disenfranchise a region unless they are put in Columbus.

IMO, they may as well stay where they are. Ohio is not that big and travel time is not as big of an issue as some say it is. Bigger issues in the debate between Canton/Columbus: safety/crime, money, venues. I personally have never had an issue with safety nor has anyone I know and I think the venues are great. But I do understand where those in SW Ohio are coming from.

I would like to know what the Northeast people would think of traveling/location if the Cincinnati suburbs were able to put a successful bid together and the finals were held there. It would be an exact reverse of the way things are done now.

I would imagine that folks who had teams in the finals would travel to Cincy.

Back to geography -- look at Ohio on the U.S. map. Its a small state. Yet traveling from Cincy to Canton isn't a great trip when you look at the other states & the distance their fans travel. No comparasion.

NE has the games because they put on the best bids with great facilities in a well organized run manner and the NE last the largest population base in the state. In fact, using gepgraphy again, often NE schools come to represent their ASSIGNED region (NW,SE) becuase of having so many schools that won't all fit in the NE region. Many are at the finals as the NW or SE region rep. + the normal NE region rep. That makes the NE more representative of the entire state as well for games.

SoccerDaddy, I don't now what you were watching but I sat on the west side for all 3 games at Fawcett as I have since the games have been there and there was security staff on both sides. I am not a Glenville fan just a fan. I go to between 20 to 30 games a year all over the state and in PA, trust me what those people in Stark do for those games is second to none. PA would love to have Ohio's set up I have been told that by many a PA official. Sorry you didn't get to run on the field. Oh by the way, as someone else stated the Glenville fans were great. They had more enthusiasm then a lot of other schools during the week end.

Leave them where they are at. They do a great job, they are close together and plenty of places to eat in between.

I think you heard wrong. I don't believe they have even looked at it yet. I believe they said they would put a committee together at the beginning of the year to look at all the options?

I doubt that.

After OSU loses the Rose Bowl, Tressle will be gone anyway, so there will not be anyone there to fight for it. :D
