Same problem with Canton hosting... not centrally located. You would be trading the long and unfair drive for the Cincinnati/Portsmouth schools for long, unfair drives by Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Canton, Youngstown. Same reasons to eliminate Paul Brown, Cleveland Browns, University of Toledo, Miami University, Ohio University and Bowling Green Stadiums as sites.

Also I'd love to meet the kid who is about to play for the state championship and is excited about playing in the shoe. I'd also like to punch that kid in the face cuz he's probably a loser.

Many moons ago when it was in Columbus my dad took us 3-4 times to the state finals because it was fairly close, less than 2 hours, when our team wasnt there. Now I only go if our team actually makes it. I would like to go when league foes make the finals but driving all the way to NE ohio is just too far to go to watch games that my team is not involved in.

yeah..fans will travel wherever they put the finals if their team is in it, but if their team isnt I think many pass on it because of the drive.

the games are great where they are.

The games are being played right where they belong!! Columbus has basketball. Dayton gets volleyball. Some other minor sports are spread out. OHSAA does try spreading the finals of the various sports throughout the state.

They just interviewed the head of OHSAA on STO during the Massillon/Glenville game..they mentioned this very topic..said they would get a group together to discuss this. Found it pretty interesting..the way he was acting..sounded like it very well could move to Central Ohio once the current contracts are up in 2011.

I saw the same interview, and he was very coy! You cant come to any conclusion, other than your own opinion. Commissioner Ross really didnt say much at all, he just explained the bidding process. BTW, Stark Co. has the games thru 2011. The bidding is for beginning 2012. You are a Mod, atleast get the facts straight!! LOL

Correct..it was my opinion..I personally don't want them to move..but I wouldn't be shocked if it did..and I had my facts straight..the contract expires in 2011 after the games..what facts did I have wrong? :huh: Because that's what I said.

No problem. Technically speaking they are up in 2011. The season starts and finishes by Dec 31. The games wont be moving til 2012, IF they move at all. I'd really term it the contract is up in 2012.

He kept mentioning the Shoe, never said anything about smaller more appropriate venues like Wesleyan, Crew Stadium, Coffman, or UA.

Looks like they're heading back to central Ohio where they should never have left.

Keep the games in Stark. The venues are great, they do a very good job of working the two sites so that traffic keeps moving, lodging and meals are no problem. Besides you have the Hall Of Fame right there, the home of the ultimate dream for every kid that ever strapped a helmet on.
Columbus already has both BB events, wrestling and the track meet as well. Plus I already send too much of my money there in the way of taxes ha ha!

I've always had a problem with the sites of the state championship games. Here are my thoughts:

1. Basketball should be played at St. John Arena. Wrestling can be kept at the Schott but St. John is a much better basketball venue.

2. D-1 and D-2 football should be played in Columbus. People have differing opinions on Ohio Stadium. Obviously the games used to be played there and I can tell you first hand that from field level there are few better atmospheres (whether or not you are an OSU fan). The problem is that it isn't even close to full, even for D-1. An empty shoe just isn't the same. I personally think that Crew Stadium would be the best venue. Yes, I know it's a soccer stadium but football has been played there. It is also centrally located and the right size for that game.

3. D-3 and D-4 should be played in Canton and Massilon. Obviously the hall of fame and Tiger Stadium are great venues that aren't too too far for anyone to drive. For these divisions, you get quality stadiums that would be packed full for these games. The reason I like having them at different venues is so the GAME CAN BE PLAYED AT NIGHT. No high school football player wants to play the state freaking championship at 11am. It goes against every principle of high school football. HS football, especially in Ohio, is meant to be played under the Friday or Saturday night lights.

4. D-5 and D-6 should be played at Death Valley in Steubenville. Sure it's off to the side of Ohio and would be a long drive for some schools. But there's no sense in playing in 3/4 full stadiums. The nice thing about Death Valley is that it's a great stadium, would be full for these games, and therefore provide a great atmosphere for the kids playing and the fans.

Just my two cents...

There are a lot of states playing their finals at large college stadiums and from what I am hearing they all are doing just fine.

Not quite spread out as you want to believe. Basically the Akron/Canton area and the Columbus area.

Football - Canton/Massillon
Swimming - Canton
Softball - Akron
Girls Volleyball - Dayton

All other OHSAA sponsored Championship games are in Franklin County:
Basketball & Wrestling: Schottenstein Center
Baseball: Huntington Park
Ice Hockey: Nationwide Arena
Cross Country: Scioto Downs (south end of Columbus)
Soccer: Crew Stadium
Tennis: Stickney Tennis Center(OSU) - if outside; Elysium Tennis Center in Plain City. (outside of Dublin. If indoor courts are needed)
Golf: OSU Scarlet (Boys); OSU Gray (Girls)
Bowling: Rainbow Lanes (or Lancaster, I can't remember)
Field Hockey: Upper Arlington
Gymnastics: Hilliard Darby
Track & Field: Jesse Owens Stadium, Ohio State University

Even the non-OHSAA sponsored sports of Boys Volleyball & Lacrosse hold their State Championship games in the Columbus area.

Cleveland Browns Stadium and Paul Brown Stadium

I think they should stay where they are. But if they were to move to Columbus, what two stadiums could be used that would even be close to the atmosphere you get at Massillon and Fawcett??? And don't include the Shoe ... that would be like watching in an empty stadium for a high school game.
