Right now there is Robinson and everyone else. Really discussing anyone else at this point is a bit ridiculous because he's SO much better than everyone else right now. If they gave out this award tomorrow he would win by the largest margin in the history of the award. And this is coming from a HUGE OSU fan. Now, that being said, the fact that he had no preseason hype will hurt him, the fact that his team has no defense meaning they'll likely lose a few games will hurt him, and the fact that he may not make it through the whole season without a major injury will hurt him. We're five weeks in which means there are 9 more weeks of football left, but if the ceremony were tomorrow they might not even bother inviting anyone else to New York.

Stiff Arm Trophy has their latest poll out and there was a MAJOR shake up and one that has me scratching my head

How is LaMichael James not in the mix? 257 yards rushing last game? 712 yards on the season with an 8 ypg avg. He should be included in the discussion.

I'm really shocked to see Pryor at the top. Yea, he's played good, but I would think others have outplayed him in big games so far. If Pryor does win it, it will be because of his play against Iowa and Michigan.

Stiff Arm Trophy doesn't do some expert panel poll or anything like that. They take the list of Heisman voters and then monitor those people and any comments they make/publish about their ballots. So this is a compilation of published ballots as they would look today from 65 actual Heisman voters. Since this poll isn't scientific, I'm going to guess that it has a very large margin or error (maybe +/- 7-15%), as opposed to a small margin (+/- 3%) for a scientific poll. All this means is that more of the 65 ballots they saw this weekend had Pryor on the ballot than Robinson.

Honestly though, I don't understand how anyone could leave Robinson off of their ballot right now. Even if someone doesn't think that he's the most outstanding player in college football right now, it's hard to argue for three players to be ahead of him to leave him off the ballot completely.

Robinson's numbers have been crazy all season, however they haven't played a team that will finish better than 6-6 yet.I will wait to pass judgement on him until after this week is over.

Which has nothing to do with the topic, which is the Heisman after 5 games. You could make your statement about a lot of players, including Pryor.

I can't wait until Michigan plays against Ohio State so all the Michigan fans can go back to the woodwork in which they came from. You're having a good season, but remember you're still #2 at best in the conference, how does that feel?

With that said, Denard is having a Heisman-esque season, but remember, you can't be the best player in the country, when you're not even the best player in your own conference.

Let's compare Pryor and Robinson fairly:

OSU's opponents records: 8-15
Michigan's opponents records: 9-10 excluding UMASS (13-11 with)

OSU's defense is allowing 14.2 ppg
Michigan's defense is allowing 25.4 ppg

Pryor: 80-123 passing with 1015 yards, 12 TD and 3 Int, 54 rushes for 373 yards and 3 TD's
Robinson: 67-96 passing with 1008 yards, 7 TD and 1 Int; 98 rushes for 905 yards with 8 TD's (missed most of BG game)

At this point in the season, it would be hard to make a case for Pryor, although like I said above, Pryor will either win/lose the Heisman will his play against Iowa and Michigan. Robinson will have to keep it up all season to be in consideration.

Also, with Michigan's defense not being nearly as good as OSU's Robinson will be forced to make a lot more plays than Pryor, who can afford the luxury of game manager at times.

Who knows what will happen the rest of the year? DR might drop off, he may not. TP might go gangbusters the rest of the year, or he might not. But it is funny that OSU fans keep saying DR won't last, and then TP goes out for few series with an injury of his own in the very 1st Big 10 game. Bottom line is none of us know what's going to happen, so why do people make such statements?

The only thing lacking in Pryor's game vs. Miami would be the completion percentage. Other than that, he threw for 233 with 8.6 ypa, ran for over 100 and scored 2 TDs against a very, very good Miami D. I mean, look what they did to Kyle Parker and Pitt's QB duo.

If we're going to qualify Robinson's stats by saying that he was out most of the BGSU game then we should do the same thing with Pryor and mention that he only played 2.5 quarters against Marshall, Ohio, and EMU.

Also, we need to remember that the Heisman is about more than just raw stats. It's also about how you help your team overall, the images you create, and a lot of other unquantifiable criteria. Now, I'm the biggest OSU fan that I know, and I would still have Robinson at the top of my ballot right now without a doubt.

Under 50% with a pick are not really Heisman numbers. Doesn't mean it won't happen to DRob or any other player. But let's not play the schedule argument until both have faced a FEW good opponents.

Don't completely disagree with you. But Miami defense is twice of what Robinson has faced to date. They have a pretty good and athletic defense. And Pryor made plays when needed.
I remember Troy Smith vs PSU. Didn't have a great game. Game was close. He threw an unbelievable pass for a TD. It made highlights, it was a Heisman moment. Overall, he wasn't that great that game. But he made the plays when needed.

That being said, right now Robinson is head and shoulders above anyone performance wise to date. But again, he will FINALLY see at least a DECENT defense for the first time this week.
And, that might not even be his biggest hurddle. That maybe just trying to get on the field as MSU will bulldoze the UM defense, using ball control and keep Robinson on the sideline as much as they can. Should be an interesting game.

Passing stats aside, Robinson is the nation's leading rusher with an almost 200 yard lead over the next closest guy. He would be in the Heisman race if he were striclty a running back, but when you throw in that he is the country's 3rd highest rated passer in the QB ratings and it makes him the clear front runner.

I've read he wants to make a push to be the first 2000/2000 guy ever in the same season, and if he somehow pulls that off he will win in a romp. If he ends up leading the nation in rushing from the QB spot and keeps up the kind of passing numbers he has been putting up there is no way he doesn't win it.

Tebow won it as a Sophomore for a 4 loss Florida team that was totally out of the national title picture because his numbers were so overwhelming voters couldn't not give it to him. Robinson is putting together a similar sort of season at least through 5 games, but there is a long way to go still so anything can happen.

Pryor didn't throw a pick. And not playing the "schedule argument," just saying Pryor did better than what you gave him credit for.

Just heard that on the radio and I was really surprised. First off, because I think he gets there and secondly because no one has ever accomplished it before.

If he does reach 2000/2000, he absolutely deserves the Heisman.
