The missed tackles are letting the runs start to break, but there is a problem with the coverage scheme after that. 3 kick returns for TDs in 2 games goes beyond the players out there (and even worse going back into last season)

I agree OSU needs to really shore up its blocked field goal coverage team. That was pathetic, everyone was in the middle of the field leaving the sideline wide open.

In all fairness, it was two kick returns. The Marshall game was a blocked FG attempt returned for td.

I agree with the coverage schemes though.

You're right. I was seeing the Iowa return td in my head when I typed that, but still, going back 4 games that's three tds and multiple long returns. Something is being exploited that the osu staff isn't seeing

Agreed, they really need to figure it out and get it fixed. I think the next couple of games will be a good time to work on it.

No question about it.

OSU has too many talented athletes on the bench to NOT be able to figure out how to fix this glaring issue on special teams. The Buckeyes dodged a bullet because the special teams cannot continue to play like this against superior teams like Miami and hope to play for a national title. I've been mystified by it the last couple of games.

I have a lot of respect for Tressel and his coaching staff but there always seems to a chink in the armor...and it's usually special teams.

I was a hard core Buckeye fan long before I became an Ohio alum. If the Bobcats need to be the sacrificial lamb to get these issues corrected then so be it! ;)

The chink in the armor is the fact Tress doesn't have a designated special teams coach...he may want to start to re-analyze that decision.

Not sure what game you were watching, but our pass rush was pretty solid on Saturday. There were a couple times where Williams just blew by the OL of Miami to force Harris to throw early.

Plus, I love the fact that two of our DL players had INT's in the game.

OSU needs to continue to look for the deep ball. The Buckeyes hit Posey perfectly for 62 yards against Miami and then never went back to the long ball.

I disagree--IMO the problem is on our special teams coverage, not ball receive...we put the offense in pretty good field position most of the game, almost taking two to the house.

I agree. Coverage is where the problem lies, return team seems to be good. They put the offense in good positions, they just need to work on that redzone playcalling, it is still god awful. I know that Tressel understand you can't win a national championship on field goals, when you have 4 drives with field position starting within the opponent's 30 yard line, you punch those in!

We must remember that this is the second game of the season and any wrinkles will get worked out. Here's to Tressel fixing the problems we have and a great season.

I don't see the redzone issues being worked out. That is a typical OSU issue for the past few seasons at the very least.

You are right it has been an issue, but I guess I am hoping that since Pryor is in his third year as a starter, we could possibly do something about our redzone issues. Maybe it is just wishful thinking as a fan.

It's the playcalling. I honestly think it is an extreme weakness of tressel is redzone playcalling.

Definitely the playcalling, I am hoping he starts putting more confidence in Pryor, like he did Troy Smith, and start calling different plays in the redzone. To me, it seems he is still lacking confidence in Pryor's ability in the redzone.

Probably has something to do with his inability to complete a pass under 10 yards.

28-6 Ohio State

Not being a hater.....but I just have a feeling that the offense and Pryor expecially will struggle. Don't ask me why...but I just have a feeling for some reason

Ohio State will win. It won't be an astronomical score differential. Ohio State will work on some things that need attention and everyone will hope that no injuries occur to either team that will keep players out of the next game. Coach Tressel will not run up the score. He doesn't need to. He wouldn't anyway.
