I'll be there for this one. There all day. Shame we can't play Woodland Hills again (considering they're ranked #1 in WPIAL), but McKeesport will be a good opponent for the rally.

The 2010 season will be the beginning of a new era in McKeesport Tiger football. Gone is the flexbone/triple-option offense that made the Tigers such a unique opponent.

But defensively, the red and blue return two stalwarts who have been racking up boatloads of Division-1 interest and offers.

Defensive tackle Delvon Simmons and defensive end/linebacker Branden Jackson are both into double-digits in terms of Division-1 scholarship offers. Jackson has a baker’s dozen of offers while Simmons has received a dozen.(VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS) http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5296362

Both Jackson & Simmons’ offer lists look fairly similar.

Simmons has received offers from; Connecticut,Illinois, Iowa, Louisville,Maryland,Michigan,Michigan State,North Carolina,Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers,Syracuse,West Virginia.

The 6’4, 225-pound Branden Jackson offer list; Illinois,Iowa,Louisville,Michigan,Michigan State,North Carolina,North Carolina State,Notre Dame,Pittsburgh,Purdue, Rutgers,Syracuse,Texas Tech,Virginia,
West Virginia.

Jackson and Simmons were part of a McKeesport defense that allowed an average of 11.1 points per game last season. The Tigers held seven of their 10 opponents to 14 points or less, with four shutouts.

McKeesport finished its 2009 season with a 7-3 record, falling in the opening round of the WPIAL “AAAA” playoffs in a 19-7 upset loss to North Hills.

Was at the #6 Plant Vs #8 Manatee game in Bradenton, Fl tonight. Blakely looked better then advertised. And Plant looked bad. They lost a lot from their 09' defense and it showed. Plant missed tackles in space and blew special teams assignments. Plant looked tired and James Wilder Jr. looked to be forcing his runs rather then letting the flow of the game come to him. Going both ways also showed in his body language.

It was the night of Dec. 11 when Manatee sent shock waves through the state of Florida that had national reverberations.

On that evening, Manatee's defense overwhelmed defending state and national champion St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), which was ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 at the time, paving the way for eventual national champ Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.).

One week later, Manatee lost to Plant, 21-14, in the 5A state final, but did not fall short of re-establishing itself on as a football power. The Hurricanes have a foundation in place that could position them to be better in 2010.

Quarterback Brion Carnes graduated after throwing for 2,245 yards and 25 scores. Sophomore Cord Sandberg likely won't miss a beat replacing him. He tossed five TD passes in Manatee's spring game. Manatee's biggest playmaker a year ago, Mike Blakely, is also back. He accounted for 1,401 rushing yards and 16 TDs. Proving to be a capable threat as a receiver, he also reeled in 35 catches for 432 yards and four scores.

Though star wide out Ace Sanders is gone, Manatee still has receiver Quenton Bundrage. Bundrage actually hauled in 10 TDs to Sanders' nine. The team's top offensive lineman, Nick Galati, will be back, but it's Manatee's defensive line that is its strength.

All four starters in the 4-2-5 scheme return, highlighted by Quinton Pompey, who recorded 12 sacks in 2009. His brother, Chris Pompey, is a defensive end that registered eight sacks.

Junior linebacker Darius White led the team in tackles last year with 137. Junior defensive back Clinton Heaven made 10 tackles against Plant in the state final, a team high. The Hurricanes' secondary was critical in its victory over Aquinas, so Heaven will need some teammates to step up.

Woodland Hills (Pittsburgh, Pa.), which could be one of the top teams in Pennsylvania, will be an interesting match up for Manatee. The 5A playoff bracket will once again be brutal in Florida, so any regular-season tests should help the team prepare for the post season gauntlet.

Sandburg's maturation, as well as that of the secondary, will be the hinge on which Manatee's season rests.

Even though Woodland Hills is probably the better team (they're ranked in USA Today), I'm still glad we're playing someone else. We have played WH three times and beat them three times. I'm glad to be playing someone we've never played before.

As a side note, Woodland Hills is one of the few teams to have an all-time winning record against Mooney.

Never mind. I found it. The directions are very easy. You just drive into Pittsburgh on I-376 and turn off at Exit 79A. Make a left-hand turn onto Greensburg Pike and you're there.

Hmmm Ok Lou Holz . I dont think so . This is a WPIAL power . I saw them last year in Wheeling and they are a very talented big and fast team that runs an old style 3 back offense .Not a wishbone because the three backs are not staggered they line up straight across . They run some real,nice misdirection plays good counter plays and they ran over one of the so called Americas best teams last year . Unless they completely revamped there offense because of the coaching change. I really doubt that . Plus its in there back yard so they will have the the home crowd advantage. I doubt many Big Red people will be making the trip since everybody thinks its going to be a walk in the park . hehe

This is what I know. The bf went to the Red/Inkster game the other day with a bunch of his cronies. One of his buddies (is also my friend) lives in McKeesport and that's why they went to the game. This guy wanted to see what his local school was up against. The guy thinks that the Red is going to run roughshod over his local team after watching BR play Inkster. BTW, he doesn't have any kids to go to this school, he's just a fan of the game and has goes to their games as often as he can, which is about 5/6 times a year. He told my bf that he just doesn't think that the Tigers are on BR's level. So... hence my prediction and what I posted. Perhaps I'm wrong in thinking that he might know and be able to compare a little bit better than any of us. That's why they play the game, right? After all, anything can happen on any given night.
If I'm wrong oh well. If I'm right oh well. But, at any rate... RRR!

They played Philly St Joes, and IMO were the better team...they just blew it at the end.

I expect a huge crowd from Big Red to make the trip. If we had lost to Inkster, it would have been a different story. But considering the plastering we did to them, I think the Big Red gang will be ultra enthusiastic. I also think a lot of Big Red people (including myself) will stick around to see Buchtel play. We want to see the team that beat Massillon.

Regarding McKeesport's new Coach Jim Ward and the type of offense he likes to run-

Jim Ward is a spread offense, shotgun, passing-type of coach. Not sure about the defense. But I can rest assure you Steubenville won't have to worry about McKeesport's flexbone offense which gave Colerain all types of fits in the Herbstreit Challenge two years ago. McKeesport lost the Colerain game, 14-7, in overtime.

Wards background includes two stints as a head coach, one in South Allegheny from 2000-02. The Gladiators were 3-27 when the South Allegheny school board removed Ward in favor of Terry George.

Ward moved on to Clairton, where he had been an assistant before South Allegheny hired him, and to Jeannette for the 2007 and '08 seasons. Last season, Ward led Yough to a 3-7 record.

I love watching Big Red win (that's why I root for them), but I would also love to see some competitive games. I would like to see us come from behind with one second on the clock to win by one point like we did against Canton CC a few years ago. That was a great game.

i dont know what kinda of offense McKeesport will run this year , but in the past they ran a flex bone attack.

They are running the spread, with a sophmore QB.

I have seen mckeesport scrimmage twice....the defense is okay,tough at times,with some hard hitters,but vulnerable to the pass. this past week they gave up a long td run. the offense,well,they leave alot to be desired.....they took one of the qbs that used to run the flexbone option offense out,and installed a new qb and new offense.they are very slow to develop the plays. people around here cannopt figure out why they hired this guy as head coach,he does not have much experience,and has a sub .500 record. the flex-bone served them well over the years,and they even won a state championship recently.....It wont take reno and his staff to figure out how to attack on defense,and score on offense.I just hope that with a couple of mckeesports bigger guys,that nobody from br gets beat up. There's a storm blowin' up - a whopper, to speak in the vernacular of the peasantry. The wpial will once again be exposed for what they are......not much....BR Rolls again.............

I think it's funny how big red get's blown up for scheduling out of state teams and teams that are having a "down year" on their schedule. Here we are playing McKeesport, which took one of the better teams in the country (if you rely on the print media) to the wood shed for 3 qtrs and lost in the final minute last year. They play Colerain in the Herbie in 08', which they lose 14-7, in overtime. And we are the ones "hyping up McKeesport and doing it for gratuitous reasons" Know Your Foe CenterBHSFan.

Just like past years when we scheduled Buffalo St. Joseph Collegiate Ny and Akron Buchtel in 05', Youngstown Ursuline and Akron Buchtel in 06',and Canton Central Catholic in 07', Columbus Bishop Watterson and Poland in 08' and with Massillon and Woodland Hills Pa. in 09'.

The big red nation heard all the reasons why their schedule was soft. They play teams which are down...you mean like Massillon or Buchtel? Which reached the State Semi's the year we played them. Or teams like CCC, Poland that reached the playoffs. How Inkster was going to be a practice game as well and be undisciplined, not conditioned "city team" that start fights.... yep,had that one wrong.

Could it just be...I mean maybe, just maybe...I know this could be a long shot here...that big red is good. Has a coaching staff that prepares the team each year, never rebuilds but reloads and beats those teams. Also, I don't see anyone else in the Valley omit (Wheeling Central vs Buchtel 09') for scheduling these types of teams.

What about a team like Ursuline? guess we schedule them in a down year...they won state championships both times before we scheduled them.

So get together at your buckeye 8 hater meetings and figure out the next hater-excuse for why the mighty, mighty Big Red continues to roll year after year.
