Cleveland Clinic was something to do with cancer.

FTR....is HIV even that big of a deal anymore? I mean, yeah...it sucks you have it and all...but aren't we already to the point where it won't kill you if treated?

Well I know if i had HIV and had the choice of having it and living or not having it at all..i would rather not have it at all. Who is gonna want to have sex with someone with HIV?

Sure, it wont kill you. But you will most likely live in a cardboard box after your insurance companies rape your ass over and over again with premiums. The drugs cost a fortune, and to top it off they make you feel like complete shit most of the time. And its an ungodly amount of pills that you have to take, every single day for the rest of your life..or ya die. So yeah..still a little of a big deal.

People with HIV are probably better off in the US than poorer countries.

Looks like 2 million people died of AIDs in 2008, but only 25,000 of those were in the US.

Okay...those are higher numbers than I thought. Anything that saves the life of 25,000 Americans and 2 million people worldwide is a big deal.

It will save the lives of probably around 100,000. No one else will be able to afford it, and they will all still die. It wont save a single person in Africa unless someone gives it to them for free.

Fair enough, but there were 1.4 million people in the US living with HIV in 2008. I would say that would be a pretty significant finding for them. Although I wouldn't be surprised if a big chunk of them also won't be able to afford it.

True I didn't take that into account. It would be interesting to see. Hopefully we would take care of our own before giving it out free to 3rd world countries, selfish or not.
