I still have to wonder why they would have pursued this move to the US, enrolled him in HS and then to UK if they knew his pro team had these so-called "statements" to prove he would be ineligible. It just doesn't add up. There are just too many agendas on one side and none on the other for me to really buy the argument.
Also, if the Turkish pro team wanted Kanter to stay there and not be allowed to go to the U.S., why not try this a long time ago? Why would they just send the documents to the NCAA now? Seems a little too convenient that they would wait until a month before practices start and after UK has started classes before they try to prove he should be ineligible. The NYT article stated they just recently sent the NCAA the information, you would think if they had such a concrete case it would've been done a long time ago.
I would think you have been around long enough to realize that the NCAA moves at their own pace. I have seen it happen at OSU. Recently USC, which took YEARS, and many others for that matter. Just because this has recently come out in the media, doesn't mean this all just happened. On top of that, the NCAA isn't this huge entity that has many resources. They are currently investigating quite a few things going on in college.
Look at the Sidney kid from Miss St. last year. Different situation obviously...but he enrolled at Miss St. and the NCAA drug that out until May before they made a decision. He sat the entire season.
The NCAA doesn't rush through anything.
As for Kanter and his family...no offense, but just because they are highly educated, doesn't mean they wouldn't try to get around the system. They are obviously from another country and my guess is, didn't know nor realize many of the NCAA rules. And even if they did know the rules, as I mentioned above, who is to say they were not trying to get around the system. It wouldn't be the first time someone who is highly educated has tried to do so.
And who knows exactly what went on with the Turkish pro team. They are obviously pissed with how things played out. Maybe the NCAA just requested the info from them. Maybe they held out long enough to screw the kid from being able to play in the US. Who knows? We probably know about 10% of what is actually going on, or what went on.
But if there is ANY truth to what is being published...no way no how does this kid step on a college floor.
