I just finished peeling and dicing pears for a batch of pear butter. So far this year I've put up strawberry jam, blueberry lime jam, mulberry jam, pickled cherries, peach salsa, regular salsa, and berry champagne.

I also found a funky old recipe for some stuff called grape catsup. So far it seems like a vinegary sort of sauce. I think I'm going to try some with chicken this weekend.

I'm still hoping to put up a couple more batches of salsa, lots and lots of both sweet and dill pickles (and hopefully those will come from the cucumbers in my garden!), and some apple butter and apple sauce. My herbs are growing quite nicely as well, so hopefully I'll have plenty to dehydrate.

I'm still working to track down a pressure canner that will work on a ceramic stove, so for now I'm stuck with fruit and high acid stuff.

Anybody else been doing some canning?

I'm pretty excited to tear into the cherries. I think they'll be delicious with some sharp cheese. I didn't make too many of them, so I'm trying to make sure they've had plenty of time to sit before I crack a jar. I think I'm most excited about the pickles, though. We have a family recipe we call ginger pickles. We haven't made it in about 2 years, and I'm down to my last jar. I check my cukes just about every day to make sure nothing is destroying the plants. I might be a little obsessive :)

Let me know if you end up doing the cherries, Fab. I'm thinking I should have done more since just looking at them makes me salivate.

I just finished the pear butter. I'm already planning what I can eat it on :)

SEJ, you should put some of that stuff over on the marketplace. I'd be willing to throw a couple bucks down to get some of that stuff.

Fab, you get to try those cherries yet? I think I'm breaking the seal on a jar this weekend or next weekend. I just can't wait any longer!

I managed to put up another batch of salsa (after discovering my first batch is insanely hot!) and strawberry jam, and I tried my hand at peach preserves and dilly beans (pickled green beans). The preserves got rave reviews, but I haven't touched the beans yet.

I'm hoping to dry some basil and sage this weekend. My plants have gotten huge!

canned 40 quarts of tomatoe juice. Froze 20 quarts of corn, 10 quarts of green beens, 2-3 quarts of peas and peppers all in smaller bags cause dont use as much. Made some apple pear and strawberry jelly. Been pretty busy weekends lately.
