I did not see him there...but again I was on the track right where you walk in. I did see his older brother there though.

Hopefully he was there and will analyze the way he sees it. Again...maybe I am hard on the first scrimmage. Next week they better get physical. This will be unlike any scrimmage they have had up to this point for the last decade. I remember these scrimmages back in the day getting very intense and tensions running high.

sonny, pride, I did not see oldschool on the Campbell side. Maybe he was sitting/standing on the Springfield side. Pride, I did notice a guy on the far side of the track standing with a stroller next to him. Could that have been you? I was with letsgodevils sitting in the bleachers on the visitors side. Those two offensive tackles Campbell started have to be at least 260-270. If that line can block.... look out. Lester looked a bit rusty and the receivers did drop some passes. It's just the first scrimmage. I do like our size, our speed, and our depth at the skill positions. Come Thursday morning, these kids better buckle it up and get aggressive because I guarantee you Youngstown East is going to come over to Campbell playing as physical as ever. I hope to see you there because I have that day off.

Dean that was me. I saw you guys standing up on the bleachers and texted Letsgo....but then realized I texted the wrong number so somebody got a message and probably had no idea what I was talking about. My son was watching the scrimmage and I was laughing because he kept looking at me like "what in the world is going on out there?"

I will be free Thursday Morning and at this moment, can say I will be attending the scrimmage. Let you know for sure as it gets closer.

Again, Campbell has alot of talent and some size, but yes...they have alot of rust to shake out. Thurs will be an opportunity to watch what they do when another team gets very aggressive with them.

two words....TEMPER EXPECTATIONS. lets be honest we didnt look good...i was expecting alot more and felt disappointed. i guess its my own fault but i think this team shouldve done alot better against a mediocre springfield team. ya its just a scrimmage but lets be honest springfield would be one of the weaker teams on our schedule. i actually thought the defense looked better than the offense, but that wasnt hard to do. i hope we look better on thursday. also the defense had a ton of adrenaline for one possession then completely deflated. if you wanna be a great team you better step up your game, because we shouldve dominated that team. sorry oldschool but im gonna make a comparison...if this team doesnt shut up and start producing 1994 maybe be repeated.

I think that this could be the best thing that has happened to Campbell. Hopefully those big heads got popped after watching the film. I did see some very good things out there.

Good:
1. We have some very good skill out there. Skevo Z. impressed me the most. I thought when he got the ball he was aggressive and tried to make a play.
2. Lester showed some good poise under pressure and was elusive when he was in trouble.
3. The defense gang tackled. Benedis played well from his ILB spot. I think we have good ILB tandem with Benedis and Sikora.
4. Our defense did what they were supposed to do. No big plays, no penalties.

Bad:
1. No enthusiasm. We looked dead after the first series of defense. If it was a real game our first offensive series was 3 and out.
2. No hitting. I counted one big hit all day long.
3. Our OL needs work. The two big guys at OT need to get with it. They are huge and didnt do anything. SL's DE ran right around them.
4. Too many dropped passes and too many terrible throws. Can't do that against good teams.
5. Turnovers. We threw 1 pick, which was a bad play by QB. We need to get that out of our system before the season starts.

I think we can have a good team. I like our skill and depth. Everything that went wrong in the scrimmage can be corrected and I am sure that it will. The kids need to focus and not believe their own hype or we will be that terrible 1994 team all over again.

Like I said....saw alot of things from a bad view point. So not sure on some of what i saw. But the one thing that stood straight out regardless of my viewpoint.....once again the tackling. Cannot tackle like that against Girard or Salem...or for that matter Liberty, Newton Falls, and South Range.

And yes Oldschool.........besides a few big guys in Campbell football history such as BJ Deluca, Gary Delesky, and I am sure some of our oldtimers!!!!, we have a bad habit of having horrible blocking from bigger linemen at Campbell. Seriously....remember the 95' line. Makris, Vrabel, Quinn, etc......Sweet Mary they were HUGE!! But they couldnt block an army of ants coming through.

Our best blockers were always smaller than what many consider Oline guys to traditionally be. Hazimihalis', Ginnis', Stav Diamantis, George Cambouris, George Rusnak, Louie Rivera, Rich Randall, Pete Hernandez, Mike Evangelista, Nick Lopez, and going wayyyy back, Tony Dann.........and the list goes on. Small guys who got the job done against bigger opponents. Our center is a senior and i am not just saying this because I know him....the kid is one hell of a worker. He needs to get these two big tackles and ask them to figure it the hell out because I am no oline coach believe me.....but my god block somebody for cryin out loud. Wasnt going to say anything but it really was annoying watching it over and over on Saturday. Again....lets see if the rust is out. Still like this team.

I like the team too. I'll like them even better if they can block. Pride, you mention some good linemen at Campbell, many of whom were undersized, all excellent blockers. Back in the early 70's Campbell hads two tackles. One was named Walt Vrabel, (he also was a stellar DE on defense), the other Nick Makridis. Both were around 260-270. They often lined up on the same side in an unbalanced line. Those two were often responsible for the big holes that Bob Mangiarelli, Al Santiago, Al Stewart, and Tom Ciccolelli ran through. But you are right. With a few exceptions the big linemen Campbell has seldom had just did not get the job done blocking. Let's hope that changes this season.

BigDean, don't know why but I was going to put Makridis and Walt down but thought they only played defense. What was I thinking. Again...they would fall under the category with BJ and Gary as two linemen that are bigger guys and used their size to their advantage.

Direnzo was a smaller guy who played on the line if I am not mistaken....and was very effective. Ronny Zetts was a smaller guy who was very effective up front. Maybe 165 lbs.

Any one going to east scrimmage? I have to work. Any updates will be appreciated.

It will be interesting to see how we respond after a so-so performance against Springfield local.

Al DiRenzo was maybe 170 soaking wet. He was also an animal. He played nose tackle. I hope you see you guys at the East scrimmage on Thursday morning. I have the day off. So that worked out great for me.

Campbell looked a little better than last week. Hughes was more accurate with his passes. Campbell scored once, while holding East to no scores. Campbell sat out two starters whose names I will not mention on this forum. Campbell needs to do a better job blocking up front and has to get more aggressive on defense.

Heard East was actually small..but very fast. im not exactly sure how much better we looked but i do know two key players sat out for precautionary reasons im hoping. sounds like the scrimmage went well...but would love to hear some specifics from people that were there. also jjhuddle ranks soup city no. 7 in d4 in its preseason poll.

Campbell was bigger up front than East. But I felt this was a good scrimmage for Campbell because it is not likely the Devils will face a team with the speed East has. Lester was more accurate than he was last week. Offensively the big fellas up front need to get more aggressive. There were some missed tackles on defense. I thought the secondary played well. East has a fine QB and a couple of very good receivers. Campbell has alot of weapons too, very deep at WR and tailback. Sudakov may be one of the better punters/kickers in the area.

A few points. Number one, Alex Sudakov may be one of the best kickers in the state when it is all said and done. Effortless when he boots the ball on kickoffs, punts, or extra points.

Lester played better. Had some nice strikes including a 50 yard TD strike to Bledsoe which was strange because as he was releasing the ball.....the ref started blowing his whistle. And honestly, nobody still knows why!! I guess the ref felt like the East guys were closing and he was protecting the QB. So in a game....TOUCHDOWN. We also had a great drive for a TD which Lester showed his ability to keep the ball and run with it.

Jales Hughes will be the man and I cannot see how Charles Smith won't get time as well. I was impressed with him today.

Our defense did a decent job and probably will not face the overall team speed they faced today again. East did have some big plays....and their QB in my opinion can really throw the ball. Kid got an arm that is for sure. Sikora had a good game. That is becoming a given. The two that were out were out for precautionary purposes to nagging injuries. They play huge roles and I am happy they are back to start the season.

If once again I have to pick the Achilles........our Oline minus maybe one or two guys. Sorry, but Tackles....YOU GUYS NEED TO GET THE HELL OFF THE BALL and block somebody and act like you have a purpose in life when you do it. Those guys are irritating to watch right now. Plain and simple. If i was the coach I would tell them straight up.....You are 6'4 280 pounds....ACT LIKE IT DAMN'T. I know I can be harsh, but folks....we have a huge OLINE and if they can block, our skill is flat out scary. Fire off the blocks and put your body into someone already for cryin out loud.

Some younger guys were exciting....Jayvees.....Charles Smith, and number 46 who I believe is the younger Horvath....I like this kid alot. Number 66 looks like he will also bring the heat when he is called upon. Overall, we can really make some noise this year. I am excited. First things first....The Ridge. Take care of business fellas.
