What say you?
I think they should. They have had a rough go of it the last few years with increasing violence before, during, and after the games. Moving to daylight hours could help out a little bit.

That works in some cities. I think it also cuts down on attendance if that is a concern.

High school football on a Saturday afternoon in Columbus??? Games will be safer because no one will be there. Friday afternoon maybe, but Saturdays would be not a smart idea.

High school football on a Saturday afternoon in Columbus??? Games will be safer because no one will be there. Friday afternoon maybe, but Saturdays would be not a smart idea.
No one will be there on a Friday afternoon either.

I know, most times you see high lights of a city league game played in the afternoon it looks like a jr. high game attendance wise. But I do think Friday after School at 5 or so would be better than on Sat.

Some Toledo City & Cleveland City play on Friday late afternoon. Not sure what Akron does.

Not all schools have a problem - would CPS leave the date/time up to the AD's of the schools involved?

... There is no clear cut solution to the problem of violence during high school games (b/4 or after). I saw the public schools in Ytown play on Saturday afternoons, but when you have to compete with YSU and in this case Ohio State, the attendence will drop significantly. I guess play in the evenings on Thursday or Friday with a high police presence and hope that it keeps the thugs away.

Saturday afternoon football in Columbus is reserved for 1 team. Traffic in the city is horrible also.

How about expecting a bit of accountability from those involved? If those involved are adults or are not active students with either school, then get law enforcement involved. If those involved are students of the participating schools, then have a combination of law enforcement and school discipline (i.e. suspension, or in school punishment), as well as possible fines for the parents of those students involved.

School discipline is a joke in the city schools. With a drop out rate of over 50% most are going to do what ever they want with total disregard to the administration. Law enforcement costs money. Tax payers shouldn't have to foot the bill for high school football games when there is another solution. I would not feel safe at 80% of the city league games at night, put them during the day so we could also save on the electricity from not having to use the lights.

Most Akron Public School games are played on Friday night at either Ellet High School's stadium or Akron U.'s InfoCision Stadium. About a half dozen games are played on Saurday afternoons at either Kenmore's stadium or Buchtel's stadium. This year there won't be any games at Buchtel because of construction of the new school.

Absolutely NOT...we ain't F'n Cleveland. Take care of the problem at the site and don't let a bunch of thugs dictate policy changes. The School Board, Police Dept and School Admns need to develop a no-tolerance plan and follow through with some tough penalties for anyone who partakes in violent behavior at Fri night games.

this is pretty much what I was thinking...except the "F'n Cleveland" part, although I haven't been to a CMSD game, so I'm not sure how safe those games are.
