Pittsburgh.

I imagine it is not as bad as I remember it, but I hate getting around that town. As a kid, I remember my dad cursing a lot when we tried to find Kennywood and the Zoo...lol

Traffic is AWFUL in Pittsburgh. I got stuck in it for about 2 hours last Friday on the way to Monroeville. I hit the city at 3pm and figured I would be fine......wrong.

Other than that Pittsburgh is a very nice city.

Detroit is bad but if you know where to go and where to stay away from ...it can be a fun city
Plus you have to have confidence in your skills to protect yourself (P220 .45)

It's not that it's busy, just very poorly designed. Whoever designed their road system (particularly the interstates) needs to be shot.

Agreed. Not a big fan of that city at all. It would be a much better city without the traffic and people.

It's just because of how old the city is and the mountains. they have a triangle block system, whereas most people are used to a square block system

Orlando ? I've never had a problem there.

I'll say Miami. Oh wait, the thread says 'in America.' Ok, I pick Richmond, Va. ; terrible murder and crime rates, very little to do.

they also designed their highways so the only place they merge is over the rivers. which isnt very long when sometimes you have to cut across three lanes.

Just places where I've actually spent time - and working for trucking company, you really got to see the less-showy parts of town...

1/ Toledo - Detroit without flavor. Went 3 for 4 for witnessing felonies on a series of business trips in the 90's - and got food poisoning on the other one. And you guys tell me the area around the OSU campus is bad?

2/ New Orleans - outside the French Quarter, it looks and smells like Port Au Prince - even pre-Katrina. Even the FQ smells like a sewer on the weekends!

3/ Lufkin, Texas - Hot, humid, and overflowing with rednecks of the bad kind. Absolutely nothing to do except go to church five nights a week - and God help you if you miss a night. Anyone from east of the Mississippi who doesn't have a Southern accent is automatically suspect of being one of the Jews whose great-grandfather personally nailed Jesus to the cross. When they found out I was from Boston, they wanted to check me out for horns and a forked tail.

4/ Philadelphia - crowded, run-down, and dirty. HUGE parts of the city is what's you'd all "sketchy".

5/ Houston - Hot, humid, and seemingly home to a lot of Texas-size attitudes without the down-to-earth friendliness I saw in other parts of the state -call it the faux-country version of New York. I don't have a problem with Texas, really - Midland and Austin are on my would be on my all-time favorites kist.

I would agree with the statement that Detroit proper looks like Kosovo just after NATO pulled out - but that's just depressing. It just seems like the city has given up.

Not sure what part of downtown you were in but I have only lived here seven months and have found a ton to do, including things downtown.

1. Detroit, enough said.
2. Cleveland
3. Lima, OH

Ha Matt you might be the person I need to talk to. I'm moving to Charlotte soon and actually just started a thread to see if anyone else was down there.

GoRocks did you go there when the Epicentre was built? I thought that was a pretty cool area as well as a cheap little bar by the Bank of America tower named Town Tavern. $2 special on everything in the bar on Thursdays. I was pretty impressed with Uptown.

He must have been here on a weekend- the Uptown area on a weekend and during the day-it is pretty dead- no shopping, etc. but the Charlotte region as a whole is hopping. Plus it is one of the cleanest cities I have been in. We got married in Uptown CLT and everyone was talking about how clean the city was.

It is very safe, easy to navigate, and a fun city if you are willing to try and have a good time!

I must have been on the complete opposite side of town. I had always just kinda passed through Charlotte previously, didn't seem to stand out one way or another. Had to work there last week and pretty well hated it. I didn't feel "clean" anywhere I went, though I didn't really go uptown, I guess.

I dunno, Orlando just struck me as a trap, tons of space between everything, tons of tourists (obviously), and no character. Everything seems a bit ... artificial.

As far as Charlotte, I was staying downtown at the Hilton Charlotte City Center back in 2005. It was yawn to say the least.
