any misdemeanor convictions, or felony convictions = automatically banned for life.

if a kid knew that he/she would have to wait potentially a year for a trial before being able to play again (and that any time lost can't be made up), they'd think harder about doing dumb shit. and if they did the dumb shit anyway, they deserve to have the book thrown at them.

I don't know where you went to school, but being a part of frat life at OSU, I can tell you that I can't possible fathom that football players can be more douchey than the people I see and interact with.

Do they think they can get away with more? Probably. But do they act like bigger assholes? I just don't see it.

In this media-driven age, if there's a charge to be made -- you can be assured it will be made. If for no other reason than the cops are going to protect their asses. If they are shown to be giving preferential treatment to an OSU player, their jobs would be on the line.

With everyone carrying camera phones, texting, tweets and everything else, there's no way players get away with crap now. Too many eyes and too many folks out there who can document what's going on.

If these guys don't end up being charged, you can be damn sure it's because the evidence doesn't support a charge.

That being the case, they should be given the same benefit of doubt anyone else would get, instead of ASSuming they are criminals just because they wear an OSU jersey on Saturdays.
