Listen, I love Henry, he was one of my favorite players to play as in fifa years ago and one of the few players I would care about following before I rekindled my love for soccer again, but I'm just looking at this from a realistic perspective, that I can understand why people disagree with.

It's pretty apparent your knowledge of soccer saying he would start on at least half of EPL teams leads me to believe you're the same type of fan that thought the US would advance further than the first game of the knockout round.

He would not start for any of the top 12 teams in the EPL, if so, those are prestigious enough opportunities to woo him away from coming to America.

Henry could definitely start for any mid to bottom EPL squad right now. I would be willing to bet he received offers from English and French clubs but turned them down for easy street in MLS, plus it's not like he's coming over here for peanuts.......money talks. I also think that being in New York had an influence on his decision.

I correctly predicted we would lose in the round of 16, regardless of the opponent. US soccer just isn't there yet. In today's world we expect the best, so sorry for putting for what I perceive to be realistic comments regarding Henry's diminished skills.

If he REALLY could find a starting gig better than New York Red Bulls (which, in my opinion would be the top 60% or so of teams in the best leagues in Europe), then by all means I think he would have taken it, unless there's many more factors here besides soccer (i.e. raising a family, wanting to live in America, money, etc.).

Again, thats your opinion, and I disagree with it (the EPL). Like I've said though, I definitely agree that money talks and that there had to be more to the decision than soccer if he truly is good enough to garner more prestigious opportunities (which I don't think he is anymore).

Predicting team B to win would be wrong in every sense of the word, so yes, Person A would be wrong.

Henry loves USA. He has talked about coming here for ages. He talked about it when Arsenal had to sell him 3 years ago, but Barcelona came in with an offer. So your telling me that 3 years ago, at age 29, he would be coming here cause he couldnt get a gig. Many European teams offered for him, but he only stayed for Barca, he would be in America over any of the others.

Henry can still easily play in Europe. He would start for over half the EPL teams and close to 65% of the La Liga teams imo. The guy LOVES Arsenal, and London, but not England all that much. New York is New York, and USA is USA. Its just better living. The only place he likely would have signed would have been a London cub or a bigger city in Spain...maybe Madrid (they can use him, cause Benzema blows right now) or Sevilla type club.

As for the French national team....did you pay ANY attention to what went on before the World Cup. Henry was calling for Domenech to get the can!!! He wanted the dude fired before the Cup. He had to have meetings with Zidane, French Officials, etc to clear the air. This French team had PLENTY off issues before hand. Not the least of which Domench having a sever rift with Henry. Anelka got pissed because Domenech refused to play Henry up top with him and cussed him out for it, which led to his ultimate dismissal. Henry was plenty good enough to play for France, and should have. Anelka is VERY good which kept him on the bench and gave Domenech an excuse, but Henry should have been playing.

If you dont think Henry is good enough to be considered in the top 200 players in the world you are nuts. He probably still has top 10 finishing ability. He has lost a step thus he couldnt get on the field for Barca, but lets not act like Pedro, Bojan, etc have better finishing or overall skill than Henry at this point in their careers. Just that 20 year olds are much faster and can keep pace with the fast pace Barcelona plays with. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has PLENTY of pace, but couldnt see the field for Barcelona this year either and thats because he doesnt have the skill or ability of Henry.

tl;dr

Laley that's a great post, very logical, I just disagree. It happens.

I don't doubt that Domenech and Henry had their issues, but unless Domenech is completely stupid (hey, it could be the case), you still have to play Henry if he's better than the person in his place.

However, I still stand strong to my belief that if he was truly good enough to earn an offer from a top 10 team in a premier league in Europe he would have taken it. You just said so yourself that he wanted to go to the USA before but an offer from Barcelona, who I think qualifies as a top 10 team in a top Euro league , convinced him to stay overseas.

2 years later, he's lost a step or two that would have earned him offers from top European teams. This isn't about his finishing ability. I wholeheartedly agree that his finishing ability is still top 10, but the fact is his athleticism has diminished to the point where he's coming to the MLS instead of staying overseas, only started 40% of Barca's games, and played less than 20% of his team's WC time (all issues aside, I really am sick of debating how much Domenech and him hated each other, we'll never know for sure, it's only speculation).
