Gilbert has since had another interview where he has cooled off from his original letter on Thursday.
"I know I made that crazy promise," the Cavaliers' owner said of his response to the departure of LeBron James, "but it was more of a rallying cry to get people to rally around that message."
I think that amongst other issues of the letter is what we have been trying to tell some of the folks on OC since we first read it.

I'd feel better about winning a ring the way the Heat did in 06. Those are the most special moments-- when only the guys around you think you can get it done. I value the championships of OSU and the Heat more than the UNC championships. They were just harder and came as a bigger surprise. I'll tell you this-- I'd rather see my Heat and 3 kings win a ring instead of being dumped in the ECF with just Wade and Bosh. I will continue to pound this point-- dynasties have been created already-- so either get with the program or get out. Miami and the 3 kings got with the program. It's better to win a ring than not get one. Bosh and Wade and role players would have been a damn good team, but I think the Lakers sweep them. The Cavs have shown who they are the past 2 years, with that same team, are you fans happy with losing in the 2nd or ECF's? I think all these guys needed to make this choice to get a ring. They weren't doing it for the next couple years with the Lakers around.

I agree that there is a group of people that are only mad about the way he went about it, but a majority are mad that he left Cleveland.

BS. Every single Cavs fan I know and have talked to feels the exact same way. He should have done it another way, period. Not sure where you're getting your numbers but speaking from real life conversations with Cavs fans...you're wrong.

It was everybody's fault. Mike could have coached better. Players could have played better. At the end of the day, players play and coaches coach. NOBODY wins if players aren't doing their jobs.

...and whose fault is it if the players aren't motivated? I know what you're saying, don't entirely disagree, but let's be honest, Brown was a severe offensive liability.

I truly understand Lebron's thirst for a championship but there's a couple issues I have.

Would he have stayed in Cleveland if it wasn't possible for any team to sign 3 max contracts?

If the answer is yes (and after all these shenanigans I can't for certain say it would be), then I can't be mad at him for choosing Miami EXCEPT for the way in which he did it (all ego driven and what not), and this:

Wow, really? If a player NEEDS to be motivated to win a ring, then by all means, take that asshole outside and shoot him. It was the players fault more than his. Yes, he should have done different things. But his players didn't make the plays. Phil should have done different things, but people aren't on his ass, because he had players that got it done in the end.

He was looking for reasons to leave, not stay. Failing two seasons in a row, bringing in players that didn't work, not getting a great player to come to Cleveland, and the Miami Heat building a great foundation was enough reason to leave. I really think LBJ wanted to do this in Cleveland, but he just didn't believe he had the pieces to make it happen for the next year or two at the earliest. He always said winning was the biggest part...

Lol...that's really the coaches only job. I know what you're saying and don't disagree as far as player motivation goes. Do your job. Fact remains that Brown is an offensive albatross. His only concern was defense. That ain't gonna cut it in the play-offs. You're smart enough to at least agree with that. Couple that with what appears more than fallacy Delonte doin' LBJ's Mom and, well, I'm not surprised. Not all Browns fault, but he could done less than 'suck' on the offensive end of things. Hard for any coach to polish the turd that is a player doin' your stars mom.

I didn't want to start another thread, so I will just throw this tidbit out here...

Dan Gilbert will be issuing a public apology to Lebron at some point this week....they are reporting it over on the RCF.

I wonder if this was Stern's doing or if people convinced Gilbert to do a little damage control on his own?

Hard to tell, though a fine wasn't forthcoming so one could surmise it's just "good business" sense. He was over the top from an owners standpoint.

I am disappointed, but I understand. I like it when guys speak from their heart. I hate the scripted speeches that athletes usually give...so this was funny and a breath of fresh air to me.

He spoke from the heart the first time, an apology won't water down what he said. He has to CYA in order to not appear as a dick of an owner...well I don't know if that can be reversed, not sure I agree with the premise but most feel he looks like a jerk, so you have the apology.

Just a solid poster, damn ha. Go Heat!! I had to sit through a 15 win season, I'm about ready for some great success.

An apology would be smart, and I respect that. He lost his composure, much like his team during the playoffs the past two years, and made a mistake. LeBron did not deserve all of that. Hate on him all you want. He made a special that most of us watched. We, the fans/media, made the hype. Maybe we created a monster. He donated a lot of money to kids that need it. What the fuck have you and I done lately? Yeah, he built the hype up and loved it, and rubbed people the wrong way. However, I won't talk shit on a guy that made a decision the helped a lot of people in need when I havn't done a single fucking thing in my life has noble as that.

I respect your opinion dynasty, but I completely disagree with you here. I am from Cincy and still reside there(went to OSU for 4 years though) but everyone I know that follows sports down here lost a lot of respect for LeBron with how he went about leaving Cleveland, and none of us are even Cavs fans. Absolutely no one can fault him for wanting to go someplace else to win a title as going to Chicago, Miami, or even New York would present him a better chance IMO, but the manner with which he did it and the complete lack of respect for Cleveland and the fans is where people are against LeBron, and that's how it seems with most of the Cavs fans on here.

Gilbert should tell Stern to screw himself, no need to apologize to Lebron. What do you think Cuban's reaction would have been if he owned the Cavs?
