Leading NL in RBI, has 17 HRs. He isn't having the best overall season but he has been pretty good in producing runs.

Very well then. I know he has led the NL in HR for the last few years, just haven't followed much baseball this year.

RBIs aren't a very good stat IMO. All it means is that you're a good hitter, and the guys ahead of you get on base. Imagine how many RBIs Joey Votto has if he has Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, or Jayson Werth ahead of him instead of the black hole Orlando Cabrera.

He's better than Adam Dunn, but strikes out just about as much as him.

Rollins has missed 80% of the season. Utley has missed significant time. The Phillies also went in a 6-week, unprecedented slump, especially given their lineup.

The Reds have scored the most runs in the national league, obviously Cabrera and the rest of the lineup can't be that bad.

No, but my point is that the guys that are having pretty good years are batting behind Votto. Cabrera has a .282 OBP, Jayson Werth .367, Victorino .324, Rollins .354
I'm not knocking Howard, but you plug in any one of those 3 guys in instead of Cabrera and you can add maybe 10-20 RBI to Votto's numbers. RBI are important, but it depends a lot on who bats in front of you, and for that reason I think it means less than things like OPS.

fair enough as long as we can subtract 10-20 RBI's from both Votto and Howard for playing in little league parks

Werth always hits 5th or 6th.

If it was a "normal" Phillies year, Howard has 80+ RBI's. I'm on the side of Votto, he's having a better year, but the Phils have underachieved.

Only if we add 1.5-2.0 to all the pitchers' ERAs who pitch in places like San Diego, Oakland, Seattle, etc.
