I'm not saying that things were better 30 years ago hell I wasn't even thought of. But the quality of music today is garbage. The "true", artists are never heard on the radio all you hear is the same crap just packaged itno a different artist.

Lololol at this thread.

Stop calling him MJ too please. It is an insult to the real MJ.

Sure he didn't rape that kid, thats why he settled for around $20 million or so.

Anyone who unequivocally says everything new is better or everything old is better is a ra-tard. And you can take that to the bank.

Yeah, screw all of those classic rock artists from the past...any fucking American Idol cast is !!11!TEH BETTERZ!!111! than them. I haven't been a fan of Michael Jackson since maybe elementary school (around "Beat It"), but look at the "if it's newer, it's better" argument pertaining to music as perhaps the weakest ever in the history of this site.

Now, if you're talking SOLELY about the quality of the music, I wouldn't deny that MJ has fallen by the wayside and that other artists are exceeding him. I don't care enough about that genre to really delve into that, though. But, the thing is, the true greats have that showmanship factor. That's a big part of what separated MJ and Madonna from lesser lights of the 80s; what separated, say, the Beatles and Stones from similar groups in their time and so on. They all crafted an image to go with their name and became gods.

When push comes to shove, MJ will be considered more significant and greater than the current crop of artists due to that...unless someone figures out a formula to give them more social significance than he had during his peak years. Hey, since MJ's "Thriller" was one of those first iconic videos that made MTV the shit, maybe some new artist will come up with something so awesome, it gets them to start playing videos again! I can only hope...

I'd love it if there was some musical talent out there today that I could listen to, but I haven't found it yet. No where have I said "everything" was better back in the day--but as far as music goes, there's no doubt.

Much of it is generational, and I can pretty much guarantee that when you grow up and have kids, you'll say their music is trash compared to the shit that's polluting the airwaves today.

I really, really hope not. It would just mean I was out of touch. Although I hate kids, so that wouldn't be the first of my problems,

Just like all of us would settle for some things if we had the money and messed up. But I'm not paying a dime if I am not guilty of child molestation. Granted for $20 million I'm just jealous it wasn't me.

Care to back any of this up with facts? Why is this music garbage and the stuff 30 years ago was not? What makes it different?

Really the same stuff? LOL You mean the genre of music that is popular now? You do know what a genre is right?

I bet more Toyota Avalon's sold this year than 1969 Camaro's... is it a better car?

The amount of sales depends on too many factors to even be relevant in determining the better car. How about looking at basic specs, like MPG, safety, average car life, features, etc..those would make more sense and would be more relevant to determining which is the better car.

If you had a new Toyota Avalon and a perfect condition '69 Camaro... which one would you chose? No lying now...

Also, good job on ignoring my other post about the more historic artists... I would love to see you try to rationalize that one. You bit off more than even you can chew with this ridiculous stance.

My apologies for not responding to EVERY SINGLE post considering I have about 50 to respond too, none of them at all rational. And seriously, QQ, do you realize how many posts never get a response either? Move on, no one cares.

And to answer your question, I'll take the 2010 Avalon. LOL

Same with the shit that was on the radio back then. Most of the stuff that is "classic" is only so because of old people getting a feeling of nostalgia.

Music is no better or worse today than it used to be. Just different. No category exemplifies this better than pop music, which has always been pretty terrible.

First of all it is hilarious when an idiot attempts to insult someone you just come off sounding like a bigger idiot. The R&B and Hip Hop today is for the most part garbage you have more crap acts than you do good ones. There are more underground artists that are better than what you hear on the radio slowly those underground artists are breaking in. Like I stated I was not around 30 years ago but when you think about artists back then such as Michael Jackson, Kool and The Gang, Roger Trautman, Rick James, Cameo, The Gap Band etc. You tell me the same number of artists today in R&B that are as popular as the aformentioned? All you will get is Usher and Chris Brown. But Michael Jackson was not R&B he was a pop artists and don't let me get started on that. I'm not stating that music back then was better there was just a larger number of quality than there is now.
