The Waynedale / Tuslaw / West Holmes scrimmage @ West Holmes is Friday, not Saturday, just so you know. I will probably be by myself at that one, but have my partner for our Triway scrimmage Saturday. I can still send you stuff. I may PM you when I get back, or text you if anything really cool or exciting happens. (HA! It's a first scrimmage, so I don't see that happening.)

As far as I'm aware (and what I have in my calendar), the Friday scrimmage @ West Holmes w/ Waynedale and Tuslaw starts at 6:00 PM. Ours on Saturday starts at 5:00 PM, I believe. But as always, this stuff is subject to change at any time for any reason.

Well, we finally got some football in last night after a long summer. I didn't think we started off very well on either side of the ball - the offense for obvious reasons, and the defense had a few lapses. As the night went on, though, I thought our defense looked to be the best of the three teams, in my opinion. Our O was much better the second time around, even with missing pieces. Overall, I was encouraged by our progress. Once our defense got broken in, I thought they did great.

I left after our first quick defensive possession after the 15-minute sessions (around 8), so I didn't see how we finished. I also heard from Ring that Wooster's Duke Price went down with an injury. I hope he is OK, but it didn't sound good.

I am looking forward to next Friday. Keep working hard, Titans!

This group of seniors have a LOT to prove. With that in mind I predict 8-2 with a play off appearance.

We could potentially go 9-1 or 6-4 or anywhere in between. I'll go 7-3 with a really slight miss on the playoffs... but I hope I'm wrong! The teams who used to be conceived as pushovers have gotten better. Just about every team on our schedule can beat us. It's cliche, but we'll need to come ready to play every week. On the other hand, though, I think we can beat any team on our schedule, too.

All right. I am typing this a second time due to the fact my first submission seems to be floating around in cyberspace somewhere. I am finally getting down to looking back at the three way scrimmage with Triway, Wooster, and Northwestern.

Northwestern: The smallest school in this scrimmage and Thut and staff certainly know the value of scheduling up in these scrimmages. Northwestern will not face a team with as much size and speed as they faced Saturday night, so hat's off to them.

On offense Northwestern performed well without their starting QB. I thought the back up threw some nice balls and the running game got on track. Pretty typical of a WCAL team. They lull you to sleep by pounding the ball right at you then hit somebody downfield for a nice gain. I thought the O line blocked well, I thought what perhaps they lacked in size on the line way compensated by speed and absolute great technique. On defense Northwestern was as hard nosed as always. Made nice plays up front, and held their own in the defensive backfield. Again, outside of Dalton they won't see speed like that again this year. During the situation part of the scrimmage (2 plays from each: 3rd and 9, 3rd and 6, and 3rd and 3) they struggled a little bit on the first set, but got it together after some verbal encouragement from Thut. They showed a nice little "walk around" defense against Triway on 3rd and 3 where they have no down linemen and the backers keep moving until the ball is snapped. It was a nice look.

Northwestern should be near the top of the WCAL this year. They have a nice group of kids. I heard McKean will be able to start running again the first week of school, so hopefully he will be back in the line up come league play.

Triway: The Titans really focused on running the ball Saturday, and did so in an impressive fashion. I liked how hard they ran the ball. They took and delivered some shots on the ground. When Triway threw the ball they had recievers open at different levels pretty much all night. The O line looked solid and will continue to get better over the next two weeks. On defense Triway was just nasty. By far the most aggresive and hard hitting team there on Saturday. I was very impressed with the way they found the ball so quickly and punished whoever happened to have it.

I left rural West Salem on Saturday night with a much higher level of expectation for this year's Titan squad. They can do some damage and continue what has started out there with the football program.

Wooster: I foolishly believed some of the rumors and negative talk about the Generals this upcoming season, and I was wrong for doing that. One of the rumors I bought into was their O line was soooooo undersized. Not true. On offense Wooster looked good, nice size and speed all the way around. The QB stayed in the pocket and make nice throws to his recievers as they came open. Sometimes he may have stayed in the pocket too long, but he will get better at flushing out. When Wooster ran the ball I thought they looked pretty darned good. Whoever plays Wooster better be able to contain the outside or it will ber a long night for your defense. When Wooster was on defense they do a great job of disguising what they are doing. Trying to get a read at the line has to be tough. They played some very nice defense with some big and very quick kids.

Wooster seemed focused and ready to play ball on Saturday. Barring any huge injuries they will surprise some people this year, and put a grin on the faces of some of the General faithful.

All of it! Those three teams won't win a combined 8 or 9 games. Wooster is small and slow. Quarterback is the only athlete on the field. NW is small, but quick. Triway small and slow. There defense was blitzing every play. Won't work in your season. No running game....

I don't know much about players other than they only have maybe 16-18 kids for the freshman team. I know they got at least one ten play series on each side of the ball Saturday during the scrimmage

The Freshman QB is tall, and they have a RB/FB/DE that is pretty big and quick. Other than that, I don't know anything about our Freshman other than their numbers are low.

We went up against a very good, athletic defense tonight when we scrimmaged Dalton. They forced us into some turnovers, one of which was returned for a TD. The other turnover set them up for a short field, which they easily converted for a TD. After two 12-minute quarters, Dalton won 14-6. The Bulldog defense, as I mentioned, was athletic and fast and gave us some fits. Their offense still featured lots of running with good fakes, but not what we're used to seeing out of them. Our defense held them OK for a while but broke down a few times. Our offense couldn't get into a consistent rhythm because of the Dalton "D". As always, it was a successful scrimmage, in my opinion. I'm sure both teams took good and bad away from it. Good luck to Dalton this season!

Dalton definitely has speed and talent which seemed to keep our offense off balance. When Dalton had the ball a nice well run offense.

I thought it was a good scrimmage for what it was. Hopefully a learning experience for everyone involved. Triway needs to cut down on the turn overs which will come.

Good luck to Dalton this season you should have a great season.

You can run whatever defense you want, but those Dalton kids were what made it happen. Very athletic, active, and heads-up. And Lint didn't even dress. They will be very good.

Gotta agree with Pit. It wasn't the scheme Dalton was running it was the kids who made the difference.

I did notice a huge difference in the gameplan Coach Lee put into effect last night over the one he utilized last Saturday. So maybe Maltrich is scratching his head as to which one to prepare for??????
