Yeah, 1 week out of 16 in the the regular season.

90%+ of the games are played in the summer or fall. It isn't a winter sport. Why should the championship game be played in the middle of winter in one of the colder regions?

The 17 weeks and not starting until the Sunday after Labor Day are the reasons why the game is in February. If they eliminate the bye week and start the weekend of Labor Day, it would put the Super Bowl back around the 3rd or 4th week of January where it used to be.

The voted on it due to the money, not the weather. Why wasn't Buffalo or Green Bay considered?

For Christ's sake, when was the last time Ohio St. played in the snow? The Big 10 schedule is finished in mid fall. Football isn't a winter sport.

Even as a Steeler fan and being used to sitting in bad weather to watch a game, this is a bad idea. I wouldn't want to see weather decide the outcome of the Super Bowl, even if some teams are or aren't built to play in the elements. I know you always run the risk of rain and they seem to have the field well prepared for something like that but, snow and cold are a different story.

This does set quite the precedent. I highly doubt this will be a "one time thing" either. Every cold weather city is going to make super bowl pitches and cite this super bowl as reason why they can.

SQ, that's not really a good argument. Tampa came in second and their stadium isn't new. Dolphins stadium and the Superdome host plenty of super bowls and they're not new stadiums. This act has opened it up for ANY cold weather city to make a super bowl pitch.


As for affecting the game, who cares? For the first 50 years of the league they decided the championship plenty of times in cold weather.

I know people like to to talk about football being played in all forms of weather, but if I were an NFL owner, I would hate this idea. As an owner, I have a large investments in my players. Potentially playing in subzero weather, snow, frozen ground, ice storms, etc. increases the chance of my investment being damaged (think ankle injury, hamstring injury, knee injury, etc.). What's more, I will be sorely pissed if my team lost the Superbowl because a defensive back lost his footing on icy turf, as opposed to just getting beat by an opposing player.

I have no problem with the game being played in Jersey, just take it inside.

I've never seen any stat showing that there are more injuries in cold weather games.

Yeah, but that's the biggest reason--it's a huge market that has always had a big time impact on the game and they have a brand new, state of the art stadium. That's a HUGE selling point.

And I agree with the 2nd part of your post. People worrying about the "integrity" of the game apparently don't know shit about the history of it.

Both teams will play in the same weather on a neutral field, that's all that matters. End of story. Like it or not, it's going to happen.

Putting the snow thing aside for a second, are people really bitching that it will be COLD?

It starts getting cold at HS games at night some years by the end of September, for fuck's sake.
1/2 of the college and NFL season is played during months when it gets cold.

Snow would be great. The Pats/Raiders playoff game after the 2001 season was one of the greatest playoff games ever.

If you were going on a trip to the SB from pretty much anywhere in February, where would you rather go? Somewhere warm down south or NY/NJ? I know where I'd rather be.

The NFL played championship games in the cold for 50 years.
