There are 2 scenarios...

Option 1:

You have an annual salary of $120,000 per year, everyone else makes $200,000 per year.

Option 2:

You have an annual salary of $100,000 per year, everyone else makes $85,000 per year.

Assumptions: Everything else is equal, there are no if's and or butts(lol) or other questions to clarify, this is the only information you need to answer the question.

Which do you choose?

Give me the extra 20k, I could care less what the others are making. Plus, when it comes to cut jobs, the top paid hopefully are first to go

I picked option one because I couldn't care less about what everyone else is making.

If everyone else is making 200,000 dollars, things are gonna be more expensive than if everyone else is making 85,000 dollars. I'll take option 2.

This. Inflation would catch up with your smaller salary.

dont forget though now in this country if you are making more than everyone else, you become the bad guy and everyone wants to take your money.

Option 1. If everyone else is making more that measn there is room for growth. If I am making the most that means I am already at the top and can't make much more.

Option 2, you make more than everyone else. In option 1 you are actually making less in terms of buying than in option 2.

Option 2 ... if you are making $100K, and EVERYONE else is making $85K, then by definition, you are the highest paid, meaning you are likely a boss. Would rather make a little less, and be a boss.

"Everyone else" is paid 235% more in option one than in option two.

"You" are paid 20% more in option one than in option two.

Option two is the financially smarter choice when you consider than if 99% of the population(saying you are 1% of population) is making 80k more than you in option 1, that makes you impoverished in the economy that will result. Option two doesn't give you the rank of richest person by much, BUT you are able to afford to enjoy the market.

Shameless bump. I'd like to get a few more votes in before I give my opinion on this.

Which do you choose?
I'd say option #1 if you're going to become a doctor. If you make less starting out in your practice, eventually you would make what other physicians make that provide the identical type of care.

There is no "eventually." In the two scenarios, that is what you make forever.
Option 2 is the best, hands down.

If I make $120K a year and "everybody else" makes $200K that means I would be a poor man so "everybody else" can pay for my healthcare and food. In other words, it would be business as usual.
