The new coach depends on if Lebron stays or goes. If Lebron leaves it will be hard to attract a good coach to come to that rathole. The Cavs are weeks away from becoming a lottery team. hahaha

No way Riley leaves Miami.

And NO WAY Larry Brown coaches LeBron. Not after 2004. I'm not sure Melo/D-Wade/LeBron would be happy with Brown being their coach.

Even more so with Lebron. I think he actually played Wade and Melo more.

I think at this point Lebron has maybe put that past him. If Lebron TRULY cared about winning championships, Brown is probably his best bet, if we can't get Phil Jackson that is.


I can't find the article online, but in 2005 in the Akron Beacon Journal an article was written saying Lebron would be OK with Larry Brown coming on as team president, and that was only a few months after the 2004 olympic debacle.

So I think 5 years later Lebron would be fine with a proven championship coach.

I don't know.

I always feel like coaches are overrated anyways. I feel like they can make mistakes, but they can't help a team win that much. It's all about players. Mike Brown is currently 6th ALL TIME in winning percentage. Watch that fall off drastically when he coaches a team that doesn't have LeBron on it. Look at Phil's record--then consider that he coached Jordan/Scottie, Shaq/Kobe and Kobe/Gasol. So, I think you just have to find a guy who isn't going to fuck up, not a guy who is going to catapult them to titles. You need players to do that. Coaches are only as good as their players on the professional level.

Yes and no. You need good players, any championship team does, but the coach not only motivates those players but also serves to maximize the potential of the team.

This years Cavs team, at full potential, could have won a championship, but we needed a stronger motivator of a coach in order to reach that potential, IMO of course.

That brings up an interesting question.

Do the Cavs hire a coach before Lebron signs? Can the Cavs hold out on a coach until mid July? I don't know how a coach accepts the job without knowing the future of Lebron.

I don't think they'd be able to entice a big name coach (Jackson, Riley, etc) to coach here without the guarantee of Lebron staying.

They'll likely hire a coach before LeBron would sign. Because he always likes to keep the pressure on the organization. But he'll have input and they won't hire a guy they know he doesn't like. If they were able to steal Phil away from the Lakers, you can bet everything you have that LeBron would sign a contract with the Cavs. So the order doesn't really matter, if the Cavs can get a coach that is that high profile they know that LeBron will sign.

Good move on all parts.

Brown never really got the team where the organization wanted it, his defensive minded teams had no matches for Orlando and Boston in the playoffs and that falls mostly on him.

Secondly, it gives LeBron the opportunity to have a voice in who is the next coach and ultimately may play a large part in if he stays or goes.

I believe they will hire a big time coach before LeBron signs. Gilbert has the money to match any sort of deal that is offered by other teams.
