Listen.. I'm not saying Columbus is a bad place to live.. It might be perfect for you but it's not my style.. Cleveland is my city of choice. Browns, Indians, Cavs, fun places to hang out at.. It's my choice.

where did I say it did? Zwicks argument was that all of these things are within walking distance...in reality they're within walking distance for about 4,000 people, as opposed to downtown columbus, which has a larger population living in its downtown area that can walk to the attractions it offers.

After living in Columbus, and spending a lot of time in Cleveland and Cincy, I'll go with Columbus.

I went to OSU and lived in Cbus for about 5 years. I also very recently lived in downtown Cleveland (yes people live there) for about two years so I think I have a decent perspective on this. Overall, Columbus is the better town. The suburbs are nicer, downtown is better and the overall environment feels less depressed than Cleveland.

The pro-sports argument is not that valid because very, very people attend so many games in person that the drive really matters. Most people, even if they live in the city, make a few games a year in which case the drive is not a big deal.

I agree with Zwick in that I never felt unsafe in downtown Cleveland or almost anywhere else I went for that matter. The areas that skew the crime stats are areas most on this forum would never go anyways. This is not true in Columbus though, because there is a lot of crime around the campus area. I would bet this is why property crime is so high, because apartments and cars are broken into all the time around campus. I also know of at least six or seven people who were mugged at gunpoint around the OSU campus.

I know plenty about Columbus. I lived in Sunbury with a gf who worked at Riverside Hospital and had plenty of friends and family at OSU that I visited monthly. I experienced Cbus enough to know it wasn't that great.

Having been born and raised in Columbus and having family who was in property management (meaning knowing what crime is like in different areas all over the city) campus is not the problem. There is a lot of petty crime on campus, but it's nowhere near what the northland area or the near east side is. I'd feel safer wandering around campus late at night by myself than I would in either of the other 2 areas I mentioned.

IMO, Cleveland is the best city in Ohio and it's not even close.

Maria Stein, OH. Beautiful town, very well maintained, great school, very good sports program. Nicest place I've ever visited in Ohio.

Western Ohio, about midway north/south wise. The school is Marion Local if you have heard of that, tradional small school power.

Interesting. I just know alot of people had their apartments broken into, especially on holiday break when I was at OSU. This may qaulify as petty crime because college kids usually dont have expensive items. I agree I never felt unsafe around campus, but I had more than one friend mugged including one in middle of the day right on 12th and Indianola.

Absolutely right. Tremont with it's eclectic bars and restaurants, Playhouse Square Broadway shows, Gateway sports venues and adjacent funspots like the Hard Rock Cafe, Great Lakes Brewery across from the famous Westside Market, University Circle's many cultural attractions, Little Italy eateries and art galleries, Metro Parks (the "Emerald Necklace"), Asia Town, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center, Warehouse District, East 4th Street bar scene.

I won't say anything bad about Columbus and I know it city well, as I get there on business frequently. I do enjoy the city. However, those who say that Cleveland has nothing to offer either haven't spent much time there or they just are spewing ignorance.

Cleveland doesn't deserve all of the bad press - but it's never going to be Boston or Seattle, either.

Cleveland was once considered as one of the best cities in America and had a booming population.

It was Boston and Seattle.

Then the economic hardships came and Cleveland (at the time mostly being a factory city) got hit about as hard as any city. The politics have kept it from truly marveling again, but it is getting better.

Downtown is getting a nice makeover and of course, the medical facilities are world famous.

There is so much to do in Cleveland and it really does get a bad rep. I'm there 4 or 5 days a week and I thoroughly enjoy the city and what it has to offer me.

Once the politicians can get their heads out of their asses and try to establish a modern vibe (while keeping the historic culture that keeps the city famous), Cleveland will be back on the rise. However, cutting down on the ridiculous taxes charged to business owners would be a good start.
