it is all personal opinion, but bomar is giving reasons behind his opinion... growing population, several company headquarters, lower crime rates, rivers that don't get set on fire, lack of a rust belt (NEO would include youngstown..)

what is your reason?
What aren't you understanding? My reason is there's great places in every big city. There's bad places in every big city. There's fun things to do in every big city. Saying one is better than the other b/c it has less crime.. even though still a lot of crime.. is stupid.

Toledo has 2 NFL, 2 NBA, 2 MLB and 2 NHL teams all with in about 2 hours. Not to mention 2 hours or less to Notre Dame, Michigan, and OSU.

Which is exactly what you're doing. Columbus has a lot of shitty areas. Cleveland has a lot of shitty areas. Cincy has a lot of shitty areas.. you're trying to make Columbus out to be this amazing place that is so safe and clean. It isn't. You can throw a rock from campus and end up in shitty areas.. you refuse to acknowledge it though.
I never said Columbus was crime free...from the beginning i've said it has less crime than Cleveland and Cincinnati, which it does.

Which is a bad argument. Both places are safe for where the majority of the tourism and action is. Both places have really bad spots where no ones goes.

i won't disagree that there are areas of columbus that aren't nice, but this is from the 2008 fbi report on crime in america...

Cleveland - 433,452 residents/ 6,193 violent crimes
Cincinnati - 332,608 residents/ 4,204 violent crimes
Columbus - 751,887 residents/ 5,821 violent crimes

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2008/data/table_08_oh.html

per capita, columbus has the fewest amount of violent crime in the three major cities.

Cleveland can say that. in the same amount of time it takes to drive from columbus to cleveland, you can drive from cleveland to detroit, pittsburgh, and with an extra 30 minutes, you can be in buffalo. so that is 4 NFL teams, 3 MLB teams, 3 NHL teams(4 if you count the blue jackets), and 2 NBA teams.

so you're saying Cleveland's worst areas are so much worse than Columbus's that it makes up for the per capita difference, everything else being equal?

ahh I see it was lookin at the wrong column...anyway, given the choice, i'd rather have a higher prop crime than violent crime I guess

Cleveland is older and more established.. Columbus is still farm land and young.. it'll get there eventually.. give her time.

so you're admitting that it's not as bad? because in order to get there in the future, it would have to not be there currently...

Apparently you've spent all of your time in Columbus in Dublin and Upper Arlington. Have you ever heard of Columbus referred to as "America's test market?" Columbus is America's test market (there are more products tested here than anywhere else in the US) because the racial and socioeconomic breakdown of the city are very close to the national racial and socioeconomic breakdown. In that sense Columbus is very cosmopolitan and a microcosm of America.

I already told u why Cleveland is great. It has 3 major league team venues all in walking distance. Its an old established city with a ton of shit to do and more history on one corner than the entire city of Cbus. And I don't have OSU shoved down my throat throughout the whole city.

Here's what I need to know... I like Cleveland. I like Cleveland sports. I like Clevelands warehouse district. I like Clevelands concert halls. I have no problem finding a job in NEO... Cleveland would be my choice. It may not be for you.. but I'm also not too worried if someone else likes something.

do many people really live in downtown cleveland? i would guess that the majority of the population lives outside of the city and can't walk to venues.

cleveland was founded in 1796, columbus in 1812, there isn't that much difference in terms of history.

i grew up in columbus. much to my boyfriends dismay, i'm not a buckeye fan. the only time ohio state is shoved down your throat in terms of football is osu/michigan week. its there other times, but so are the browns, and i'm sure clevelanders get sick of them after the first few weeks of the season.

columbus is building tons of apartment/condos downtown, so this # is just going to keep growing...

a million people could live downtown in cleveland or columbus, that doesnt make it the best city.
