why do wedding djs play crappy music? every wedding its the same bs, chicken dance, electric slide, macarena garbage...

when/if I am married, my DJ (if there is one) will have a list of songs handpicked by me that he cannot deviate from. One deviation and his cord is yanked, and my ipod is being turned on shuffle. I'm sorry grandparents and children, this ain't for you. I don't wanna hear songs people pretend to like during my wedding. It just makes the dancing feel forced and awkward.

Most DJ's ask the bride/groom what they want/don't want prior to the event.

The fact is, the "same bs/crappy music" is the stuff that gets people out on the dance floor.

Grandma Betsy and Little Tyler don't want to hear Rob Zombie or Jay-Z...they want to dance.

cause when your highly intoxicated, the chicken dance, ymca, and hokey pokey are sooo much fun. also SnotBubbles made a good point you have to understand that there is little kids and older people there, and the music would have to be approprate for all ages. Plus, you dont dance to Rob Zombie, you fuck to Rob Zombie

Agreed about Rob Zombie

Honestly I've only been to a few weddings in my adult life. But in my opinion a band is always better (at least in the NY/NJ area). Bands just bring a different energy. They've also come a long way over the years and her good at playing modern songs as well as oldies.

And there will be no chicken dance, macarena, etc. at my wedding. I already told my mom that.

I think we have to play Shout though. Maybe recreate the scene from Wedding Crashers .... :P

I know a good DJ that sends me facebook event invites and messages daily, his name is DJPish, you might know of him. Hear that he's pretty solid.

The better question is why the hell people bother with dj's at weddings anymore.

Random kids who grew up with computers, etc., can do just as good as some fat, ex-radio jockey that people pay ridiculous amounts of money for at weddings.

I can guarantee you...from personal experience...on the wedding day...after all the pre-wedding crap, and the wedding rigamorole, at the reception...you will not care less what the 'cheapest DJ you could find' will play...you will just be thinking..."how in the hell can I get out of this reception and into a nice soft comfy bed away from all these crazy in-laws...".........or maybe that was just me.

As for the question. With my failed marriage, for the wedding, we were able to get a radio DJ for cheap because her father knew him pretty well (hell, I think he might have paid for all or at least a good part of the fee as his wedding present). We had our request list and all that made for the dude.

I don't know how typical/atypical this is, but the dude was faithful to our list up to a certain point. When it got later in the evening, he went to more of a "yeah...the married couple are still here...but we got a good number of mid-20s people (primarily my college friends) and kids (primarily from her side of the family who somehow all made it to the reception despite us not really wanting them there...but got stuck in the "put up with shit to have people on our list attending" trap), while a lot of the older people have left...LET'S GET HIPPITY-HOPPIN'!!!!"

Little kids were dancing...drunk friends were amused...I'm like, "Muthafuckin' MACA-FUCKING-RENA?!?!?!!!! Honey, time to load up the gifts and ditch this place."
