Favors is still better than Cousins. Favors was unfortunate in that he played on a team with awful guards and an even worse coach so he never got the ball.

Cousins will be a very good player, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't turn out to be very good until his SECOND team. I see him underachieving for the team that drafts him, then growing up and excelling as a 22/23 year old after he leaves his original team in free agency.

There really is something to the whole big man/lack of effort theory.

For some reason, if a big man can't put forth the effort to be good, he'll just be mediocre, it's almost as if there's a well defined line between those big men who contribute, and those who don't. I can't, off the top of my head, think of one big man who is good that doesn't put forth the effort.

And honestly, I don't see his amount of effort changing unless he's put on a team with a veteran leader that won't baby him.

I'm not denying the ability to become a 20/10 guy, I just realistically don't think it's gonna happen.

Wall and you play Arenas off the ball. They've got Howard, so if he can get his stuff together, that'll be a good 1-3. It'll be interesting if the Wiz still try to get Beasley for nothing. Wall and Beasley would be a nice duo for the next 10 years, no matter how much of a "bust" Beasley is right now.

6'11, 280?, and moves like that...doesn't impress you? Was the best player on one of the best teams as a freshman. Doesn't impress you? You need to have your eyes checked.

Cousins is a monster, but I think Philly is going to stick with the Elton Brand experiment. They don't really need a post player, so I see them grabbing Turner.

Or I wouldn't be surprised to see Wall drop, I don't think he's all that great. The Wizards could use a playmaker and since they already have Arenas they may opt for Turner or Cousins.

Yea I get what you are saying.

To me, it looked like Calipari got Cousins to play harder as the season went on, and that makes me want to think that it will only continue.

I've seen a few mock drafts with Favors going ahead of Cousins, but I honestly didn't see him much this year, outside of the OSU game. He just feels a little undersized to me, although he's listed at 6'10". I guess I can't really judge him because I saw so little of him last year.

I don't know man... Beasley is a bust. He just can't start for a championship caliber team. The majority of his problems arise from the fact that he is undersized. Too slow to play SF (not enough skill offensively) and not big enough to play in the post (plus he lacks big man skills).

I still question whether Holiday is the best fit at PG. They had Louis Williams as the future PG a few years ago and it didn't work out.

If they could land Wall, it would be the perfect fit. This is just my opinion though, clearly they may go in a different direction, especially if they can upgrade scoring in the post since Dalembert has never been an offensive threat. Then again, I'm really high on Speights, so I don't really see them absolutely needing to take a big man like others do.

There are many things to question about Cousins (attitude mainly), but effort was NOT something he lacked. He was, at times, the hardest working and most passionate player on the team (outside of Patrick Patterson IMO).

He gets a bad rep. in this department because his demeanor often seems like he's lazy, but he certainly is NOT.

ESPN's got Favors ahead of Cousins, but that is obviously subject to change as we're still a month away from the draft.

I think Favors has more upside as an NBA banger, but Cousins has the better skill set, IMO, but this whole effort thing kills me.

I actually want Cousins to succeed, I want him to be awesome, I love athletic bigs who can spread the floor, so it's not a personal thing against him, but I've seen too many skilled big men fall by the wayside because they refused to put the effort in to be successful.

Just in the drafts from 2003-2007 (I think it's only fair to give guys a couple years in the league before commenting on whether they're a bust or not here) here are the big men who have underwhelmed, taking into account their pre-draft hype:

2003: Michael Sweetney (Georgetown) 9th
2004: Rafael Araujo (BYU) 8th, Robert Swift 12th
2005: Fran Vasquez (France) 11th
2006: Shelden Williams (Duke) 5th, Patrick O Bryant (Bradley) 9th, Mouhamed Sene (Senegal) 10th


Granted, none of those guys had the upside of Cousins, but the point I'm trying to make is that there's a lot more big men who have underwhelmed than those that have lived up or surpassed hype. I hope Cousins succeeds but I only think he will if he puts forth the effort needed to be good in the NBA.

Kwayme and Darko were busts. Leaf and JRuss were busts. Please look up Beasley's stats. That isn't a bust, faaar from it. Is he living up to his potential, no not yet. I can certainly agree with that. But he's only 21, he has a lot of time to be a force.

I know you have blinders on because you're a UK fan but when almost every single mock draft mentions his lack of effort I tend to think it comes into question.
Analysis: While Cousins has the talent to be a top pick, he has scared away teams a bit with his on-court antics and a motor that sometimes moves to idle.

I don't think he'll be great. Better than a Perkins, but not a top 10 guy. It's the effort, heart, and mental toughness I question right now. I hope the young man makes me eat crow.

I sort of agree with Azubuike, I do think he gets a bad rap because of his demeanor and facial expressions at times. I thought at the end of the year he was UK's most reliable player.

With that said, you brought up some interesting points and names. I've seen him compared to Zach Randolph which I think is fair as far as offensive skillset, but I think Cousins ceiling is much higher.

On a sidenote, there have been draft choices that people can look back at and question, but when Sheldon Williams went 5th, let alone the first round, it was mind boggling to me. What did anyone see in him?
