A bunch of right-wing nutjobs will be all over this for some reason. What a country where you can have a teen pregnancy then make bank giving lectures to kids on abstinence.

Maybe I can get a gig giving lectures on Quantum Mechanics if I flunk Algebra 2.

Who knows more about the importance of abstinence than a teenage single mother? Not the same at all Lad

ummmm, I could argue some young adults who have overcome the struggles of remaining abstinent despite the pressures from society and within their own bodies????

And I would counter argue facing the consequences is stronger evidence than a belief. You can have a parade of Bible thumpers on stage and kids will make fun of them, you put a single teen mother up there and they not only relate but they listen. Do you have a problem with the amount of money she is getting paid or her last name?

I am willing to bet the problem relates to her last name. Again the payer is paying this cash, I would take damn money too to speak if I was offered that.

No, I don't really care either way. I don't like Sarah Palin but I don't blame Bristol for taking advantage if there are people willing to pay her.

Just strikes me funny, the concept of a teen girl preaching abstinence w/ a baby in her arms. Couldn't I just pull someone off the streets after school lets out and have them give the same info.???

The problem some of you have is her last name, not her background and speaking topics.

If this were any other young adult speaking on the problems of teenage pregnancy and promoting abstinence based on her own struggles/problems, you would cheer for her strong character at overcoming the odds and helping other young girls avoid the same mistakes.

You know it, I know it.

Well let me ask you this then, concerning that subject would you rather hear it from someone who has never had to experience the consequences of that action or someone who has?

The problem i have is that she is getting paid 15k to do it, but i guess that isn't her fault but the fault of the idiots who would be willing to pay some average teenage girl, of which there are thousands in the U.S., that much to speak about something that isn't all that groundbreaking.

Plus I'm sure that plenty of kids in HS or whatever know a peer who has had a child. If not they see 16 and pregnant on TV. If they don't already sympathize or aren't "scared straight" I don't think this will do it.

One time they brought some mock crash to school as an attempt to deter drunk driving. It was a Friday and ith all the classes gathered together outside the school we used the opportunity to get everyone's beer money collected for the upcoming night. Didn't deter us b/c we knew kids who were killed driving drunk before and after, but we still did it.

I think a better strategy is having someone who succeeded give pointers on how they've overcome the obstacles and pressures, but all in all I don't hink either one is going to change anything all that much. A lot of better things could be done with that much money.

I'd only pay that much to listen to her crap story if I got to do both her and her mom afterwards.

Well unless I missed something from the article, no one has yet dished out the cash. That's just her asking price. So we'll see if she's worth the buck to some.

And my problem isn't with her last name. It's with the people wasting money on a weak strategy. What character should I applaud??? The realization that she done fucked up???

The character it takes to cash in 30k on this??? I'll applaud her character if she donates a large portion of the money to an organization that works to help put an end to unwanted pregnancies.

I know single mom's with no way to exploit their last name making cash and they still provide for their kids. I applaud their character.
