Montreal played inspired hockey against the Penguins. It was almost like the ghosts of past Montreal squads were awakened. Pittsburgh could have played better but it seemed that this was Montreal's time and they seized upon it. Congratulations to the Canadiens.

They still have a nice nucleus of players and some of the best players in the league.

No need to get dramatic and call the Pens run over.

If you remember back to the early 90s, after the two Stanley Cups, the Pens didn't win again but they were in the playoffs other times in the 90s and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1996 before losing to the Panthers.

They'll be a spark next season with the new arena. They have some work to do in free agency, trying to add a little more peripheral scoring, but even if they didn't change anything, they'll enter next season as a playoff caliber team.

Also you can look at it another way.

They very well could've lost to Detroit last year. It took everything to win that series. Had they lost and not had any Stanley Cup titles right now it would be a lot worse. Two losses in the finals and then this upset loss. You would have a lot more of those questions - will they ever win it? Overrated? And so forth.

They've done pretty well for a young team getting to the finals twice. They may have won two cups had they not faced another exceptional team in Detroit.

^^^^^^I'm not too worried, IMO, they need to sure up the defense. The pairing of Goligoski and Leopold was pure suicide, they need another shut defenseman.

Then there's the question of free agency, Sergei Gonchar is the main one and IMO, they need him especially to school Letang on the PP. Ponikarovsky and Leopold are gone IMO, Ray Shero finally mad e mistake at the FA deadline this year, Poni was a bust and Leopold didn't get the correct partner in Goligoski. Also, do you sign Bill Guerin for another year?

Habs just played extremely well in this series for the most part and did all the hard work to outplay the Pens. Made Crosby and Malkin invisible and held them to two goals in 7 games. Pens didn't lose it last night, the Habs won it by outplaying and outhustling Pittsburgh.

Pitiful performance last night. Montreal wanted it more, and Calgary has to be kicking themselves in the ass for not resigning Cammy.

FA's who need to stay/leave:

Gonchar: gone
Poni: gone
Eaton: stays
Guerin: retired
Feds: gone
Cooke: stays
McKee-stays for the same price of 800K
Lovejoy-stays
Lee- stays
Bayda-stays
Johnson-stays
Conner-stays
Boogard-stays
D'Aversa-stays

Pens still have a good, young core. Cannot get to the finals every year but I think if they mgt brings in the right peices around Staal, Sid and geno and MAF then they can have a few more very good runs at it.

Stop deflecting and let us laugh at you. Seems all you have is name calling. That's a nice 5 year old tactic.

Why don't you deflect your sorry ass out of here! The laugh is on you because it seems all you have is stupidity, I love how you spelled the word "what"........must be that 5th grade mentality. Do you and "strap on" attend the same grade school? Probably Bright Promise in Steubenville.

At the right price and contract length, Gonchar stays. Early reports have Guerin as a definite retiree. Cooke is a must, as is Eaton. IMO, McKee and Leopold are gone and they will bring in a top name defenseman, Volchenkov is available and would be the perfect shutdown defenseman they need. Lovejoy should get the permanent call up from Wilkes-Barre. I also believe they will go after one more skilled guy but you have quite the pipeline with the Baby Pens in Tangradi, Letestu, Connor and Johnson.

All that said, I have no problem with what ever Ray Shero decides, other than this years deadline acquisitions, he's been money.

Did you even read that article? Probably not, to big of a mental challenge for you.
And apparently using "too" instead of "to" is too big of a mental challenge for you.

Gonchar won't sign for less than 4.5mil and that's way too much. I'd rather see Shero go out an get 2 top 6 wingers.

You never know, he could give them a hometown discount, but yeah, I wouldn't sign him at the figure you posted.
