On 1st and 10 today, they debated it.

The 2 stews picked Pujols

Skip picked Howard, said he's a better hitter in the clutch, and better in the clubhouse.

What say you?

I'll pick whoever Stew doesn't pick. That guy is a puppet hired to ruffle feathers.

Pujols, and it's not even close. He's better at EVERYTHING, no debate here.

As a reds fan I would love for Howard and Pujols to switch places

What moron would pick Howard?

Pujols is the best player in the league...Howard is maybe top 10, but probably isnt even that good.

Not to mention both are 30, but body type and swing production tend to say Howard will decline sooner and more rapidly.

Pujols is not only a beast at the plate but he is very good defensively too.

Pujols may go down as the best player ever if he keeps up his production another title.

Pujols is younger than Howard and better at every aspect of the game. Pujols by a mile.

I also agree with stroups.

Pujols. Better OBP. Strikes out a ton less and walks more.

Listening to Mike & Mike this morning, they were talking about Howard's new contract. They mentioned that Braves manager Bobby Cox was asked how much Pujols should be making (in regard to Howard's new contract) and his answer was a straight faced "$50 million per year."

Pujols, easily, and you can make an argument for a couple other one baggers over Howard.

Yep:

1. Pujols
2. Miggy
3. Fielder
4. Teixiera

Those 4 I take over Howard for sure. Others in the discussion but probably fall short

Pujols. Already one of the best ever, if not the greatest ever.

I'll go with Howard. He has 4 straight seasons of 45 hrs and 135 rbi. They only longer streak belongs to Babe Ruth. The only downfall on Howard is the amount of strikeouts that he has.

Pujols, and it's not close. They shouldn't even be in the same conversation.

I would also take Pujols.

But it's a false notion that it isn't even close. You can't go wrong with either one of them.

I'll go ahead and say it isn't THAT close. Trend-wise, Pujols is a much better player.

VORP:
Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense.
Pujols 2009: 98.3
Howard 2009: 47.7

Pujols 2008: 99.1
Howard 2008: 36.5

Pujols 2007: 73.9
Howard 2007: 54.7

Pujols 2006: 86.6
Howard 2006: 82.3

Pujols is otherworldly in his contribution to the Cards. Howard, while a very very good player, isn't on the same plane.

No, Pujols is the better player, but Howard has come into his own and it is fairly close. Much closer than most realize.

SQ, sorry man but it isnt that close.

If you REALLY want to start a good debate over who to take over the next 5 years (1B wise) make it between Miggy and Fat Albert.
