There is no need to rush him. This is a bad ball club. I thought they'd be better but the offense is just completely awful. Let him get about a month more of starts and then bring him up.

Again....Randy Johnson came up when he was 23 and wasn't RANDY JOHNSON until he was 28...would he have been better sooner had he been called up in 1990 or 1991 instead of 1988-89? No one will ever know.....I'd love to hear Randy's thoughts.

Maybe more towards July he will be up.

I wouldnt think it would be any sooner than that.

He will be up when someone gets hurt or someone is dealt. At this point, there is absolutely nowhere for him to pitch. Sure it would be great if the Reds could get something for Harang and/or Arroyo, but those guys are the 2 worst SP's in the rotation right now. Cueto, Bailey and Leake are cheap.

Anyone who thought he would breeze through without any missteps were fooling themselves. I think his fundamentals on PFP will keep him down as much as a bad outing or two. You GOTTA have those down because one little lapse in the bigs can let the floodgates open.

You're really good at discussing sports. If you have nothing to add to a thread, YOU look like the joke, not me. The reason I say he won't be up til September is because I don't foresee anyone getting injured/sent to the minors. If anything we'll ADD a pitcher (Edinson Volquez) before all is said and done. Barring us trading Homer or Cueto, I don't see a trade happening. Harang and Arroyo are the best trade candidates and not only are neither of them showing any signs of promise in 2010, both of them are owed a lot of money. Even if one gets traded, Sam LeCure and Justin Lehr have numbers better than or similar too Chapman's and are more experienced ball players, again why bring up Chapman over them? So lets pretend Arroyo gets traded in July, we call up.....lets say Lehr.....he does ok, Volquez is back and ready by Aug 15th, we have to send Lehr back down. Again....I don't see WHERE Chapman fits in until September callups. I'm not just riding him because he had a bad game....I'm saying it makes no sense to call up someone with so little experience when NOBODY, let alone someone with his experience, should be called up for anyone in the foreseeable future.

In his defense.......if i remember right he is a soccer player so he really doenst know much about sports......just fancy guys running around in shorts and trading yellow and red cards and occassionally kicking the ball into a large net past a guy who falls asleep from all the boredom.

Most popular sport in the world because much of the world is poor and all you need is one ball to play and it really doesnt take any skill. Anyone can run and kick a ball. You can take the most unathletic person in the world......from the time they can walk...and they can do the fundamental skill of kicking a ball....so yeah....its popular around the world because to play it ya really dont need any type of skill set and it can still be enjoyable.

I played the big 3 sports growing up but after having a son that played soccer, there is much more to the sport than kicking the ball. I've seen the better athletes at different high schools not being nearly as competitive as some of you think they would.

As for Chapman, I know he's not ready yet but what a buzz he would bring for a few games. I agree with the one poster, keep him down and call Lehr up next if needed and then Edison will be available in August. No need to rush and have him get discouraged.

what i am saying about soccer.....yes..there is more to soccer than kickin the ball around...but the general skill set of playing soccer is the most basic skill set that is needed and that is why billions and billions of kids play it...because it is very basic in nature. To be good...yeah...that takes a certain skill set but to make something popular it has to be easily accessible to the masses and that is what soccer is. Ya can the most unathletic kid...put him on the soccer field...eh runs around...kicsk the ball a few times...and he is happy. But if ya take the most unathletic kid..put him on the ball diamond or hoops or hockey...he is gonna fail miserably and prolly not have fun. I ran summer activities at a local part for a couple of summers. Unathletic kids dropped the other sports quicker than they dropped soccer becauase striking out, not being able to dribble or make a shot or constantly falling down sucked..but they felt successful and had fun if they got to kick the ball a few times....

but anways.........


back to Chapman......and the Reds.........wouldn trush Volquez back. If the team is in it late in the year they did it without him........he could have a bright future but dont rush him back. If Chapman can throw strikes down in the zone......cover his PFP responsibilities then I think a late summer callup is warranted.

I wouldnt be opposed to telling him that he is getting a set number of starts...like if someon eis on the DL...tell him youll get 3 starts and moved down. Maybe a little less pressure if he knows he is going back down soon.....or maybe not. Kid is young....talented....and i think has a bright future. Seen some of his highlights on occasion...my only concern is will ML hitters chase some of the pitches im seeing guys in AA chase. Im thinking when he comes up he will see guys who are more selective at the plate, and the zone is like a breadbox in hte majores it seems.
