Scheyer's a solid on-ball defender because he is bigger and has more length than many of the point guards he is defending, and also understands positioning very well. I'll just say he's one of the best defenders in the country period. And he is. He's incredibly underrated, and this site only proves that. But there's a reason Coach K has put Jon on the opposing team's star guards often during #30's career in Durham. He can simply get down and defend. End of story.
He could barely handled Wisconsin's fundamental yet nonathletic team and you claim he's one of the best in the country?
Wednesday's performance against Wisconsin was an outlier in the greater work of Jon Scheyer's some 100+ career college basketball games. In a contest against the Badgers in December of 2007, Scheyer dominated the game defensively. And he was guarding a mix and mash of former Wisky standout Michael Flowers, Trevon Hughes and Jason Bohannon a lot of the night, if I remember correctly (depending upon when DeMarcus Nelson was in the game).
Hughes went 4 of 13 shooting that night, and sharp shooter Bohannon could only get off two shots for four points in about 20 minutes of play.
Again, I didn't say THE BEST. I said he's up there. I don't care about DraftExpress' opinion. I've watched Jon Scheyer play for four years, and he can play damn good on-ball defense. There will be nights, of course, when he runs into a Scottie Reynolds. That's a natural part of basketball. There's always someone quicker and more talented offensively. Even Joe Dumars got it taken to him and embarrased every now and then. That happens when you play against Michael Jordan. (Not comparing Reynolds to Jordan, obviously, so don't even go there. Someone will, so it had to be said.)
Sleepa, have fun when the Bucks are once again numbing it up in the background come tournament time. You want to talk about Duke's March "trouble"? Try figuring out a solution to Ohio State's ONE (legal) Final Four problem since 1960. Now that's consistency.
