The Westies that are onboard and eligible are a formidable and talented group...I'm pumped to see a great city tournament!
Three weeks ago I think we were in the driver seat for the team title, with West, Mifflin, and Whetstone right there as well. Since then:
Lost our 145 lbser to grades, straight A and B student, but failed French not realizing that dropped him to 4.5 credits, even though I remind the kids over and over and over again that PE is not a full credit. Easily a kid that places 4-6.
Lost our 113 after a 4-0 performance at Westerville South to an appendisitis. Beat Mifflin kid twice. Great kid, feel for him. Easily places 4-6.
Then in the last two days:
Lost our 132, easily top two at the weight class, due to behavior problems in school.
Lost our 182, easily top three in that weight class, possibly bump him up to 195 where I think he wins it, due to behavior problems in school.
Was talking to an assitant football coach from Brookhaven, I know these issues are everywhere, in every program. These kids self sabotage themselves and their teams.
On the whole though, those kids that remain and are doing the right things are making it worth it. We had a great senior night and hoping that it rolls over into this Saturday.
