Robinson has the ability to make the podium in March, but the work ethic is the question. The Tate boys play 3 sports and aren't able to focus solely on wrestling like a lot of other wrestlers these "former coaches" have, so it's easy for them to make comments like that.
I was fortunate enough to be one of Hannibal Tate's "former coaches". In all honesty, he was one of my favorite kids to coach. He was funny, respectful, a little goofy, athletic, and had a fire to win matches. Being a state alternate as a freshman at 145lb. is nothing to be ashamed of. He had a good regular season and even better postseason. I have not been able to follow his results this year but give the kid a break. If he gets focused, the kid can scrap. You never know what's going on in a kid's life.
As for the city league meet, I've always liked reading up on this thread. Regardless of how city league kids do in the postseason (they always have a few studs), the city league tournament itself has a lot of pride. I remember watching this tournament as a young lad back in the late 80's. Lenny Ball was at the helm for Marion-Franklin and the mat stats (all 50+) brought the house down. It was a fun wrestling venue, to say the least.
