I have a meeting tomorrow night to give insight of the future of Groveport Madison athletics, both by sport and as a whole.
As of right now, based on everything I've heard so far, I'll be unemployed, or at a minimum, a volunteer coach to any kid that can fork over "$400-$800".
But, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we'll be ready on Tuesday's starting at 5pm.
Stay tuned.

New AD says plan for the worst, hope for the best.
If levy passes, P2P stays under roughly $125. If not, I'm sure it will be $500, which will decimate sports, sending our athletes elsewhere, leading to a core-education building, teaching only math, science, social studies and English. Currently, sports will be kept as a way to keep the gym credit going even though there is no gym class. The other option there would be to cut sports and offer health and gym. Most certainly no high school bussing, which would most like funnel down to no JH either.
All in all, spring version of own mats are slated for Tuesday, April 17th, 2012.
Hope to see as many as possible in attendance.
Also, March 20th is the Spring Coaches meeting. There we will discuss the Central Ohio mats schedule. I doubt we host again (out of choice), but I could be wrong.

Sunday: Bishop Ready - 6pm, Apr. 15th
Monday: Hilliard Darby - 6:45pm, Ohio Capitals Club - pretty sure they will run through T of C.
Monday: Hilliard Davidson - 5 to 6:30pm ($30), starts April 2nd
Tuesday: Groveport Madison - slated to start on April 17th, 5pm
Wednesday: Upper Arlington - Central Ohio Open Mats ...I'm thinking 6:30pm (but don't hold me to it. If it changes I'll let you know.)
For the sessions with no times, I will get clarification for a start time. I will also confirm a start date if there is t one.
There are also two or three clubs that I am aware of... Orange Crush (Olentangy Orange) as well as DeSales. Both have fliers or info on the Chatter. Also, Randy Simpson always seems to be doing something!
Junior Olympics, dual team competitions, etc. bottom line... Opportunities abound if you are looking to improve.

I agree with Bitter..........open mats should be free!! A "clinic" should cost with the right clinician.

I don't think H. Dave's are intended to be open mats. I'm probably wrong for grouping them in here.
Those sessions are clinics. I have no clue how they plan to run them. But one thing I do know is that if I could go back in time I would go to the Monday night gig and hope to learn one move. I would then go to at least 2 open mats and spend an hour trying to hot that one move, in hopes of incorporating it into my arsenal. Some moves or techniques work well with certain people... Some don't. But you won't know until you try.

ps: that $30 covers ALL 8 sessions. We're talking... 8... Divided by? No 32 minus the ... Carry the one... We're talking inexpensive here. And with the talent in sure they'll bring in, it'll be worth every Thomas Jefferson you can find! (TJ is on Te $30 bill, right!?!?!)
I think there is something to be said for having that go-to takedown or move. But I also think expanding one's bank of moves cannot hurt. Learning to wrestle in or from positions is key.
I just had a Reese's Peanut Butter cup blizzard... Medium. I gotta stop. Running starts Monday.

Kilbourne will have open mats starting April 17th from 6:30 to 8:00. We averaged about 40 wrestlers last year and four wrestlers from the 1st team all metro attended Kilbourne open mats last summer. Usually good competition from high school to college and beyond.

I'll vouch here that on several occasions this open mat was absolutely SICK! Had a good crowd from the worthington, hilliard, pickerington, and also a few city league schools.

Just to clarify some things:
Ohio Capitals Club is also open to non club members for $5.
In fairness to the kids that paid for the full club in season session we wanted to open it up to everyone else for a small fee.
We have never turned any kid away that didnt have the money.
In fact after the season it has been pretty much an honor situation. I am not tracking down the money.
I even had a Dad pay the whole yr then his son got hurt and missed a lot of time so I gave him his money back(even tho he said to keep for the club)
Most everybody has been very appreciative that we have opened the room up during the season and kept it running after the season.
Ive only had 2 people question the price(once on here and once at the club)
Last night there were 15 wrestling and I collected $25(only 2 were full club members).
We have had Jimmy Edwards there on occasions. In fact he has been rolling the past 2 weeks with us.
We will prolly adjust the schedule(maybe even suspend it) when Davidson has these RTC Clinics on the same day. It just doesnt make sense for us to have it when there is such a great opportunity right down the street happening for the kids.
Its never been about "us" or the "money", but just trying to give local kids an opportunity to roll together without having to travel all the way out to St Paris or Springboro. And BTW(by the way not Burnett Trained Wrestling which they charge too) they both charge $12 for their "OPEN MATS" (Prodigy only offered theirs(Tues) free after another wholesale coaching/director change in attempt to attract kids due to severely dwindling #s when they ousted Nate Carr).
The money we collected will go towards competing in some off season dual meet tourneys with spots going to full club members and other regulars getting next choice to fill open spots. This will also help expose more kids to off season wrestling, something that has been virtually non existent at Hilliard.
Moving forward, Im not sure what direction we will go. We very well could go totally free open mat in the off season when we resume after the Davidson RTC clinics.
In season I believe we will keep a similar structure. We offered 20 sessions for $60. We did get a late start so next yr we should be able to get rolling even earlier. We may offer group or team packages or even monthly rates to keep the cost down. We do have to charge something during the season tho. Input would be appreciated!
Id like to thank Coach Brendan Moody for making the room available and making this a reality for Central Ohio!
I think it has definitely helped the kids that regularly took advantage of it. We had several State Placers and numerous State Qualifiers regularly attend, not to mention all those District Qualifiers!
And thanks to all those that have come out and supported the Ohio Capitals and taken advantage of this!
It was fun to watch and root on the kids that I got to know this yr from the club in the post season.
Good luck to Central Ohio wrestling! Sounds like there are plenty of opportunities out there this yr!

SDDad: No clue. I was kicked off the ranch after I was caught trying to nab two hairs from Jeff's head, a "sample" from one of the hunting dogs and a wing of a fly that was captured in any of the three wrestling facilities. Actually those three had nothing to do with the restraining order. What sent that through was the drip of sweat I had to secure from either of the three Jordan boys that are on the team.
The potion I was looking to make would have made Cael Sanderson look like a 4x sectional qualifier. But alas, my methods - and perhaps the invasion of privacy - was more than they could bear. I was sent off ol' Man Peabody style.
"You broke my barn you summumabch!!!!"
(Now wasn't that a whole lot better than, "I don't know."?)

Regarding the open mats.....I am a 40 year old dad, official, and ex-sectional star. My wife has been getting on me about giving myself some self-care time. Rolling around on the mats would be great to help me relieve a little stress. Can old guys attend to not only get a good workout but maybe provide some of these youngsters with some old school techniques......can I also bring my little guy who is 11 and wants to learn how to wrestle?
