All they seem to do now is throw crap/click bait articles on FB

In November of 2009 who would’ve thought that 14 years later this place would be absolutely THRIVING while the big bad SI goes down?

All print media is dying a slow death.  And I miss reading the paper on the plane.  On the other hand, the enjoyment from reading an actual hard copy paper/book is quickly replaced with having to carry or dispose of it.

But I think a major reason for the failure of a lot of these publications is they quit doing real journalism on interesting stories and instead starting pushing narratives of the day, and searching out and crafting stories to fit inside those boxes.

I read some articles on the Edge browser feed occasionally at work.  And there are some truly awful articles that I assume are generated purely by AI.  In a few instances, it drags out a 2-paragraph story into 20 slides (literally 2 sentences per slide), and repeats the same thing multiple times with different words.  Written on a 3rd grade level, and you can't even get to the end of it (it's like a test).

There's no way people are going to digest news like that, is there?  I know a lot of websites try to push video stories, which is both slow and inconvenient.  Pretty sure results have been mixed, and most stopped pushing it much.  The other is the stupid "lists" that make you go through 40 slides.

Agreed  

I loved SI back in the 1980s.  It was cool, had great sports writing and played a HUGE role in driving the sports culture.  It seems like for the last 20 years they’ve become a predictable political rag and their only attempt to stay relevant in sports was gotcha hit pieces.

End of an era.
