Lonnie ‘s health problems hit him just as his career was starting to take off.... almost like Kipnis only worse. He just can’t stay on the field.

He spent his last two seasons with the Tribe with that right calf problem that landed him on the DL most of the ‘17 and ‘18 seasons. I’m not sure what his problem was with Pittsburgh but it’s wiping out the prime if his career.

Wait wait wait, we as a fan base can’t lament Lonnie and his injury woes but then shun the signing of Santana — who has had 2 years ALREADY that Lonnie could only dream of. To say he “never had a prime” as he enters his 26 aged season but saying Lonnie is having his prime wipes out is a little unfair to the Tribe. If Domingo never had a prime, Lonnie was stealing checks for 6 years.

I don't think the DomSantana signing is bad.  I actually thought they might be trading for him two years ago.  I think he is similar to Puig, maybe less contact, similar power, but the baggage that Puig brings has left him as a free agent into February.  Fine with DomSantana.

I think the issue with comparing Lonnie and DomSantana is that Lonnie came up through the farm system, so the pass on being a china doll is looked at by the fan base differently than signing an injury prone player out of FA.

If I’m “lamenting” Chiz it’s only because just as he started to come into his own, he got hurt. He was putting up some good numbers, but he couldn’t stay on the field.

....and he was damn good defensively.

DSantana strikes me as another Franmil Reyes type player only not as good offensively

You are being a victim of homegrown talent, imo. Tito didnt even play him versus lefties. A platoon guy is never going to have a true impact.

Should have 5 guys around 30 HR for the year, hope they have runners on base when the ball leaves the yard

My guesses:

  • Reyes - 43
  • Lindor - 37
  • Ramirez - 34
  • Carlos Santana - 29
  • Domingo Santana - 23

Not sure on what the order will be, but Reyes can’t hit solo shots. Lindor you expect a bunch as lead off, and bottom of the order. But Reyes has to connect with guys on base, weather it’s 4/5/6 in the order.

I think that’s too optimistic, Laley... although that kind of production would be great!.

Don't get me wrong, I’m not hating on DSantana, I’m just worried there’s not enough defense in RF.
That’s why I want Puig even though some say he’s too aggressive out there.
The sad part is that, as a Tribe fan, we have to accept the cheap option, and sometimes we shouldn’t have to. If you don’t spend this year, when are you going to?

I’m maybe the biggest Puig fan on here, especially when it comes to the defense. I think he is the best RF in baseball on that side of the ball. He won’t win a GG, because of that aggression, but he also makes plays no one else can and keeps runners off 3rd/trying to score because of that cannon.

As for HRs, I’m very high on Reyes. He was going to hit 35+ in SD, I think he can add 7-10 more in Cleveland’s park, though KC/Detroit and the AL Central aren’t hitter friendly, per se, it’s a lot more friendly than the NL West.

Carlos I see a regression, but still high 20s. Ramírez I’m very much hoping his slump is over. But if it is, and he gets in 155 games, I don’t see him or Lindor falling shy of 30, and probably mid 30s. Domingo if he gets 135 games can reach 20. Anything less is a disappointment, and if it’s over 25 we got a steal.

I'd guess Reyes bats 5th.

DomSantana 6th

Well then, maybe we are counting his home runs before they’re hit.

Looks like the Angels deal for Joc Pederson has fallen through.

I wonder what we’d have to give up to get him?

They just traded him for Luis Renfrigo and 2 low level players...? It fell through because of the Mookie fiasco. Dodgers are in a spot where they have to ship him out though, so a bad trade for them becomes worse.
