Have any of you recently had your property assessed? This was very recently done in my county and it's causing an uproar. For example, on the outskirts of my property there are several parcels that are currently appraised at just under $9,000. The proposed value is $45,000. One hell of an uptick, ya?

And it is just not me, but many many many others are having the same issues. Where the county seems predatory in this is that they only gave 2 separate days for "informal" reviews. The lines were so extremely long that I'm going to guess that only about 1/3 of the people questioning this were actually able to talk about it and ask questions. The county is conceding on the fact that there should be other ways for people to question this and will have a way for people to file complaints next year.

Has anyone else had such a drastic increase in their assessed property value? If so, did you get it reevaluated to a more reasonable rate?

Do the parcels contain significant oil/gas reserves/rights?  Other than that, I could not understand such a drastic increases.

I did go before the county appraisal board once to contest the valuation of my home/property, and was able to get it reduced to a reasonable number.  Oddly enough, I had the taxes for other homes on my street that are definitely worth much more than mine, yet were valued at less than mine; however the review board said you can’t use comparisons in your argument --- WTF ??  I said what sense does that make – none.  So basically you just have to argue that your house is worth X, and here is why, and lean on them.

That party of my property is basically "right of way" pertaining to oil and gas. There's no pipelines running through it. The check that involves that section comes about every other month and wouldn't even fill up my gas tank. And even at that, wouldn't the rest of my property be considered in the same manner? There just doesn't seem to be much method involved, just plucking random numbers out of their asses lol!
